Cleanup after boiler swap?
Cleanup after boiler swap?
I was wondering if those that hired a company to swap out their old boiler for a new one had any cleanup to do afterwards? We just had ours swapped this weekend (by friends and family), and feel as though they figured they didn't have to keep things clean even though we paid them for the work. The basement is a MESS. The soot caked on the floor is a rediculous amount. We know that we should have hired a company we do not know, but felt like we were between a rock and a hard place when all the parties involved wanted to take part in this. The soot has been tracked all over the entire house and will probably take weeks of cleanup. Every single thing in the basement will have to be cleaned, and there is a lot. I run my business out of the house with all the parts I use down there. Had we known the mess it would make we would have tented the area out with plastic. Just wondering if this is the norm, or if they in fact were careless.
I know on any job I go on, we leave the house cleaner then when we came. My brother who works for me once asked why are we cleaning if we are coming back the next day, even though no one was living in the house. Doesn't matter, you never know who will come after we left.
We had our boiler changed. The guys laid down floor wrap over most of the working area and lined the walking path from the basement up the kitchen and out the garage. Didnt help
. Like you, soot was everywhere. Maybe next time, i will set up some tarp walls but i dont think that would help too much.

I read somewhere to put powdered Tide down. It is supposed to suck up some of the oil and greatly helps with the smell. I laid some down last night and today the house smells MUCH better. I am going to leave it down another day before picking it up and seeing if it sucked any of the oil up. I hope so.
