California King sized beds suck.

We should have bought a regular king. None of the sheets I have, even though they are "CA King" size, quite fit. I can't find a down comforter that fits either, because they are all sized for regular king.

I have one, and I agree.

Nothing ever fits it quite right. Plus, it's way too fucking big for anything other than a 5000 sq ft loft.

I'd consider downgrading to a queen, just to gain floorspace in the bedroom.

Is there a good way to get rid of a mattress? Is there a market for 3-year-old mattresses?

I like a big bed, I'd probably go with a regular king for the next purchase - but unless I can unload this thing, that's probably a ways off.

I'm wondering the same thing.

In reality I'd probably go for a regular king as well. I don't know that I could realistically go down to a queen.

But like you, it won't happen until I can get rid of this thing.

Sorry for laughing guys but I came damn close to getting a C.King and decided against it just because of the sheet thing. In the end I went with a Queen just because a the bedframe I have is big in Queen, in King its just plain HUGE and won't work in 90% of bedrooms.

If you put the mattress in the paper, someone will buy it. I wouldn't expect to get much for it though. And do you really want to meet someone that's in the market for a used mattress?

We have a regular king, however, it's a pillow top. B/C of this, regular king sheets do not fit perfectly. They fit OK, but not perfectly. Even when we buy sheets that are "made" for pillow top or thick king matresses, no luck. We even bought a set for a Cal King and it fit better, but still not that great.

Sucks, but we love our bed... so we'll deal

we have a Cali King w/ a pillow top on it, and we had a hard time getting sheets to stay on. We now buy "Deep" sheets and the problem seems to be solved

Cali king is 4 inches longer, and 4 inches narrower, than a normal king.

If anyone is shopping for a mattress, I can't say enough good things about my Bergad memory foam mattress. By far the best mattress I've ever slept on.

Wow, that's quite a difference! I can understand people not needing the width of a regular king sized, but who would need one 4 inches longer, and how tall are these people??!

I could use an extra 4 inches so my dog doesn't sleep on my feet

Someone needs to invent the California queen.

The problem with those foam mattresses is that you cant have much fun on them. They are really not condusive for extra currricular ativity at all.

I have a queen bed, with a top of the line pocket coil sealy matress (very high coil count) with a plush pillow top. I love it, but I wish I had went for King.

Which one of you edited the Wikipedia entry for California King?

Legend has it that Bergeson had extremely long legs and short arms and had trouble reaching for his wife during the night. Hence he developed a narrower longer bed.

Ten years later Bergeson divorced his wife, moved in with a guy by the name of Lowell, moved to San Francisco, California, and developed the California Queen Mattress. The California Queen Mattress measures 60 inches by 84 inches. This is the same width but 4 inches longer than the standard queen mattress.

Deep sheets should help you out. I bought a standard (eastern) king and it's difficult finding sheets for it in the stores. Everyone carries a ton of Cal King sets, but very few standard.
