I am in the process of finishing my basement and decided to go with a ductless mini-split AC and heat pump system. The pros say I need 18,000 BTU's (1.5 tons)and the estimates range from $4-$6k. The area is 1050 sq. feet. I would love to put one two 1 ton units down there at opposite ends. Does each wall mounted unit need its own compressor outside or is there a way to hook 2 units to 1 compressor?

Just how difficult are these to install myself? And anyone have any advise on brands? I personally like the Friedrich. I have a Sanyo at work that works great but looks kind of bulky. Most of the guys who gave estimates said they stay away from Mitsubishi due to difficulty getting replacement parts. Thanks for the help

 

$6K to $7K should get you two of them installed.


You still would have to call a pro to suck out the air in the refrigrant line before energizing the system.


Never heard of two of them w/ one compressor.
