Almost Done the Basement

I wish I'd had taken more pics along the way. Its about 700 sq-ft of finished area. The damn furnance room took up about another 100sq-ft or so.

Took these last night. Drywall stage complete. I have a taper coming in today and should be done by Friday or Saturday.

Small kitchenette

Insert for the fridge

Congrats, looks good, and you "reclaimed" some basement space to make a usable room.

Ya, all I'll be putting down there is a TV with sofa's and a kitchen table. Mainly be a place to store all my kids toys/playroom.

Did you need to do one of those upwards pumps?

Me too. I've been at this since November.

I figure I'll need another 6 or 7 weekends to complete it.

Shouldn't have to do anything to the foundation. Here's an example of a macerating unit for a basement toilet. It's basically a big food processor and a pump that pumps waste up to the sewer line.

I did have to break foundation. But all I did was connect with existing drainage that was there. I basically "T"'ed off the 4" pipe. Not sure why you'd need a pump, the toilet should flush the water right out.

The 4" pipe was below the concrete. So all I did was crack the concrete to expose the pipe, attached a 'T' and ran another 4 foot or so 4" pipe to the where the toilet is. So the water is still flowing downwards.

It may be either the pump thing or crack the foundation, not sure.

No idea. We've kept every receipt so we can add it all later. About $1200 in drywall and studs and now another $1000 for the taper. But there were counttless other trips to the building supply that will probly add up to an additional $1-2K.

Not to mention the fridge and stove that we alreay bought since we got a great deal which were $1400 combined.

And ya CG, the meat is still in the cold cellar.

I thought the pump was needed when your existing sewer pipe was above the floor of the basement - which would mean you would either have to erect your toilet up on a throne-like stage to get it near the pipe - OR you would need a pump to pump the water (and other goodies) up to the pipe and out. I do not have a basement, but this is my understanding.

I have a half basement, meaning it's half underground and half over. This may be the issue.

So I went to Ikea last night. Heard they carry a wide selection of laminate flooring. (Had no idea). So we chose the floor from the showroom but weren't entirely sure we were going to buy it, it was $1.29 sq-ft or $33.18 a box. So when we get to the warehouse area to pick it up, we see that the floor was on clearance, regular $33.18 per box, now $19.99 per box, so only 77.5 cents a sq-ft Bought 25 boxes and there were only 30 left.

BTW - I still fawkin hate Ikea though.

So I got the basement kitchen priced.

Its a 9x9 kitchen and I was quoted $3,900. Kinda high I thought. Priced out do-it yourself kitchens at the HomeDept and Rona and their 3K+ which makes no sense since I would have to built and install evertything myself. Ikea kitchens are 3K+ + taxes + install so thats even worse.

Damn expensive.

4 Years ago my laws paid $1800 from this same guy, although their kitchen is a bit simpler. Apparently the price of wood their using has gone up in the last few years.

And I wish I was in Cali so I didn't have a basement to finish which took up all my time and money.

Thanks.

Finally got around to taking some pics. Just got the TV last night. Other than odds and ends its completely done. Actually the bathroom isn't done but that will have to wait til the fall.

Total cost $9.700 and change including the Fridage and Stove.

Its small but functional.
