34" Door not common size?

I'm looking to change a door or two in my condo and I measured it at 34". When I look online, it seems all I see is 30", 36" and 38". Is 34" a special order?

Are you talking inside or outside door?

You can find 34" interior door, it's pretty common. Go to Lowes or Home depot.

If it's an outside door measure the rough opening. Don't always go by the door itself as you will want to replace the jam along with it. Also don't forget to note if you have 2x4 or 2x6 wall where the door is being installed if your replacing the jam.

If your looking for a decent quality outside door goto Lowes and checkout their "reliabuilt" series. Won't drain your wallet much and a lot of them are energy star. And they have a decent selection of what you can order. You'll need to know the wall thickness and the rough opening though for the best fit.

Interior door, I measured the door and the door opening. Actually want to change a regular door to a bifold. Pocket door would have been nice, but not enough room for that.

The "rough opening" is to the 2x4 studs, so you pulled the trim away?

If you did measure the rough opening you should be good, just go to Lowes with your measurements.

I would not get a prehung door, this is the actual opening with the door installed (there is a swing door there right now). So I measured from trim piece to trim piece. Not the rough opening. Either way, I think I'll have to special order, blech.

Maybe, if your not going to replace the jam then your measurements should work. Goto Lowes/Home depot and see what they have.

Just know your jam will look a little weird with recessed hinge cutouts if you just remove the old door and slap up a folding door. Totally doable though, and lowes/homedepot will order your stuff to spec. It doesn't cost that much more... more than likely your 34" opening is normal, just not popular and they need to order it from the main warehouse.

Oh I know about the hinges. Ideally I wanted to flip the entire door frame, so the door would open out instead of in, but I don't think I could handle that job myself. Carpenter probably wouldn't be cheap to do it, guess I'll have to check. On the bi-fold route, I was going to fill the hinges in with some thin strips, wood filler and paint over it.

Ya, that'll work. have fun

I just replaced my front door, and I'm doing my patio door in a couple of weeks. I had to order one to fit my rough opening.

I also have to replace my subfloor near the door since the last owners let water seep in slowly FUN FUN not to mention the red oak floor in that area

Ewww. In my parent's old home we had that problem, had to pull back the carpet and replace a section of the subfloor and underlayment and rebuild the base of the frame. Not fun times. Good luck!
