$4680.22 wtf!!!!
That's my new AC unit with install!!!
My AC blew out Saturday. 4 ton unit, new ducting, electrical, new lines, digital TS,etc...apparently because of new FL code they can['t install it in the space the old central air unit is & has to be moved. $900 for just that.
I get a whopping $300 tax credit back.
Sucks!

That's a fair price.
This is why you pay for a home warranty insurance policy.

It was past the 5 year warranty. It's 9 years old. This unit has a 10 year warranty.
I could live without it a few months if the damn south fla weather would cool down. Been 80's all month, high of 87 today & humid. House was 81 last night with the windows open.

No "whole home" warranty? I purchased one at closing. I think it was $450/year. Covers EVERY appliance, etc with a small deductible. Our microwave died a month ago. The repair would have been $425. We paid $75.

It would have cost you only $50-$100 to replace the entire A/C unit if you carried a home warranty/protection insurance policy.

Needs more Lemon Pledge
FYI, many of the whole-home warranty policies I looked at a while ago cover REPAIRS to items, but not REPLACEMENT if they deem it unrepairable. Might be worth checking on your policy.

They vary from company to company.
Sometimes the upgraded policy is well worth the money, as you get more "replace" than "repair", and coverage for more items.

Leaking freon or lack of freon will make the unit freeze.
Oh, and check the filter, and make sure the condensate drain is not blocked.

One of the pieces freezes up...when the AC shuts off at the desired temp the piece thaws and drips water out. No drainage block.
no freon is leaking.

Oh yeah I had one of them from ECM. Didn't seem to be worth it at the time. I had it 2 years. My mom had one as well I didn't like how they kept fixing the problems instead of replacement. They did whatever they could to NOT replace stuff. Her AC unit burned almost every coil & almost every copper tube leaked & they kept fixing it.
Sticker shock...9 years ago this was $2K installed. At least they have payments. Should be paid off in January if my job is nice to me.

Make sure you are not low on freon.
Other than those two items (which are typical problems) then you need to see if the ducting was undersized.
You might also want to check to see if the coils are dirty.
