What do you pay for a gym per month?

Got really spoiled with an amazing gym in my old building but my new building's gym isn't finished (they aren't working real quick either) so I started to look at gyms. Keep in mind I live in South Beach so I expected them to be expensive but Jesus they are expensive plus you have to pay to park at most.

I went to Gold's Gym tonight and it didn't have all the amenities of the club like gyms around here but would def work until they tried to sell me. Had a nice girl show me around but she got her slicked back hair manager who said "what can we do to get you in her tonight?" I said I felt like I was buying a used car and left but it was $99.95 a month plus a $299 new member fee but there was parking.

There is a David Barton gym, a Equinox, and a Crunch close to me but I have heard they are really expensive compared to Golds plus you have to walk through a hotel, valet at some, and it becomes more of a going out for the night then working out which I don't know if I really want.

I really got into working out in the last 6 months so I just need to bite the bullet and get raped in fees at one of them but I was wondering what others are paying in their areas, is this normal now?

Edit - I was going to fix my spelling mistake but it really makes the sentence funny so I'm leaving it. I am sure you can figure out what I meant

Have you checked out Bally's?
I used to work for them. Here in Houston, the rates are pretty cheap. 70 bucks to get started and 30 dollars a month. I was shocked at the 300 dollar start up fee at Golds.

WTF when I was at Gold's it was no start up fee, $31/month with no contract, and $100 a year for parking across the street. I got too busy with my home and ended up just getting Power Blocks and a bench so I can lift at home.

Good, I thought it was me that lost touch with reality but come to find out it is them. Yea, $100 a month and $299 to start but they are running a "special" where you don't have to pay your first and last month up front so just the $299 plus monthly at the start of the month.

While you can't get prices on the phone (they make you come tour) everyone says Golds in cheaper then the rest. I did find a local police athletic league that is only $40 a month but it is super ghetto downtown Miami. I usually don't care about things like that but driving there last night made me really uncomfortable.

Also, found an LA Fitness in Miami but with traffic after work, the 10 minute drive took me 40 but it is looking like I might do it if the price is reasonable.

to be honest, i think they're trying to sell you their top tier.
if you haggle with them, and they really want the sale, they'll drop to a lower tier.

I would have said "Just tell me what room I can use and we can get her done."

My wife pays $35/month for Gold's Gym, actually I pay it. They don't have a pool. They wanted $50 a month but she got a discount because she belongs to the local mom's club.

39.95. A bunch of 10 or 20 dollar per month places are showing up. About time I checked them out. Most gyms are around 40 though here in Jersey.

we have retro fitness here in NJ, and it's $20/month and if you get in during a promo, it's $0 sign up fee. Only thing is it's a 1-yr contract that auto-renews itself.

that's what i use. you definitely do get what you pay for - at peak hours there are not enough machines for everybody and they close at like 7PM on the weekends.

but if you can time it correctly and go during off-peak hours it's not bad.

$100/month for a gym membership.... and $300 for a new member fee!

funny cause I used to pay $25/mo for a joint Ballys membership, under contract for 2 years... Now they keep pestering me to go back for $200/2 years or something like that. Really considered it but the closest ballys is still too far away and I'm kinda lazy to go to the gym by myself

$10 a month at Planet Fitness.
They were supposed to charge me $20 so I could use any location but they screwed up and only charge me $10. But I still get the Black Membership which allows me to use any location.

Ended up going to crunch because it had a much better vibe and the people are cool, plus I can walk to two locations from my house. They wanted $250 up front, plus first and last month at $79 a month or $85 for access to any of the three locations in Miami Beach.

While I still feel I'm getting raped, I ended up paying $125 to start, $69 all access, paid just the last month up front, no contract, free till January, I believe, and one free 30 minute one on one training.

The David Barton Gym looked like a freaking club but you get to use the Gansevoort facilities and beach which is cool, it might have been the way to go just for the pool and women

1stGen,

I see the pics of the pool, but will need to see pics of the women before giving any solid advice one way or the other.

Who am I kidding, it's Miami Beach. They are hot. Do eeeeet.

The wife and I pay $37 a piece for a smaller gym. It has every type of equipment and what not just doesnt have like a track, pool, locker room etc. The good thing is it's 2 minutes from the house and 24/7.

Well it is in the Gansevoort South Beach Hotel which is right down the block. With the gym membership you have full access to the resort

I pay $120/year for a local park district gym. It's small, clean, everyone knows everyone and it's walking distance from my house. The only downside is hours, they're open only until 1 pm on Sat and Sun

my 24 Hour Fitness membership is currently on freeze while I'm here in Canada... but it't normally $25/month with access to over 400 locations world wide... I just wish they had clubs in Canada

the gym I've joined here in Vancouver is $39.99/month and since they fucking tax everything here (including gym memberships), it's actually around $43/month. It's clean and well equipped, but it's kinda dead, not a lot of members, which is a good AND a bad thing, you get your workout in w/o having to fight for machines... but Not a lot of girls and a bunch of :ghey: guys

Damn.
I payed something like $150 sign up fee (signed last November) and $30 a month at LA Fitness in DFW. And many times, they have specials were the sign up fee is waived.

I probably wouldn't pay more than $40 a month for a gym.
Then again, I'm sure its largely based on location.

Snap Fitness. When I lived in Arlington I went to LA Fitness but moved to Bedford and wanted to try a new place. This place is small but it's close and has all I need.

$16/month for 24 hour fitness. Granted, it's a corporate account but I will keep it forever. No contract and I can go to any 24 hour fitness there is.

Wow 24 hour fitness must be raising their rates. The number I got from them was $42 a month. It's a "super sport" facility if that makes any difference.
