Not just people who barely lift, but people who use bad or odd form to begin with. I see this one guy doing crunches on a sit-up bench, only "crunching" with about 2 inches of motion in his rep. He does that for about 5 to 6 minutes straight.

I couldn't care less if he gets injured, just kind of odd since you get the impression they think they have the form mastered or something.

...so, I wasn't fast enough with the camera phone the other day, but saw a guy popping his zits at the mirror I see this from time to time and it's just absolutely unnecessary

I see that all the time in my gym. I thought my form was bad, but some guys at the gym barely move the weight any distance at all. This one guy goes does 2 inches on EVERYTHING. Bench press, 2 inches down; sitting leg press, 2 inches down; squat machine, 2 inches down; sitting bench press machine 2 inches out; etc.

No kidding... every gym I've ever been to in my life = look at schedule, "oh it's legs day, it don't matter WHAT hour i go in -- all equipment I use will be totally empty, no waiting..." *sigh of relief*

Towards the end of my franchise gym career I decided Monday was shoulders day and chest either Wed. or Friday.

Hate the women that come in wearing tiny shorts and tank tops, doing all their yoga poses in the middle of the room where all can see. They catch me looking at them doing their "Downward dog" pose and they get all upset.

Yeah, it did happen. I guess I scared her away; I haven't seen her since. She used to be a regular. seriously wtf man.

Yeah, it did happen. I guess I scared her away; I haven't seen her since. She used to be a regular. seriously wtf man.
next time just bust out the cell phone and blatantly start taking pictures and mumble "Oh, this is soooo going on the internet".... see how much longer she continues.

sorry to somewhat change the subject, but one time I was having lunch at a sushi place with my gf and the girl sitting next to us (alone) was yaking sooooo loud on her phone, it was really starting to annoy everybody in the restaurant... so I held my phone up and started video taping her, I wasn't discreet at all, I wanted her to know... and she got weirded out, and just like that she lowered her voice and ended her call shortly after. Yes, it works... because the first thing people think of is... "oh great, this is going on YouTube..."

haha in response to this and to my defense...

im a Nike Addict and constantly wear what some people would consider "pricey" or "gawdy" outfits to the gym and when im out running.

i could just as easily wear random gym shorts and a tshirt with some old tennis shoes. but something about suiting up in my pro combat/compression clothes and udoubtedly neon colored Nike Frees makes me excited to work out, it puts me in a better mood..

as far cologne and shit like that, forget it, im gonna stink when i leave no matter what...

Well I think it's moreso the mentality that you're going there to impress someone instead of working out. I actually use some pretty pricey training shoes myself, tbh.

Trainers that text, Web browse, Facebook during a client's session. The guy sitting on the Swiss ball, wearing the 49er's jersey is a trainer. The gym I belong to has both in-house trainers AND independents. He's an independent trainer and doesn't wear a uniform. But while it's hard to tell in this photo, he was totally texting during his client's sets. I can not stand the sight of this. Trainers like that don't give a flying fuck about their clients, all they care about is the $50-$70/hour that they are getting paid for. I swear, if I was his client, I'd tell him that for every time he text during the hour, it's $5 off that session

Yeah I can't take a trainer seriously who doesn't watch my reps to make sure I'm maximizing my routine. I don't care if he texts in between sets but from what I'm paying dude better be on me.

I agree completely!!!

I'd even prefer that he not text between sets. That's the perfect time for him/her to emphasize other key factors of fitness such as nutrition, form, stretching, breaking bad habits, etc....

Been said before, I'll say it again:

If I'm in the middle of doing a lift, don't come up and "Hey.... you gonna be much longer?" Have you ever seen someone carrying on a conversation while they're doing a bench press? I haven't. I probably never will. Stop talking to me. Not to mention when someone comes up and asks that, how am I supposed to take it? Is it supposed to make me want to rush through my set so I can get out of this dipshits' way? Won't happen, so stfu and go find something else to do for the time being. He's probably one of those people that takes 5 minutes "prepping" his set, then maybe 30 seconds actually doing it.

Same, and then they give you crap for being rude, right? Maybe I should start bringing a music player of some kind. The headphones might steer them away from talking to me.

Meh, what people do to their bodies I couldn't care less about . Some of the roid heads can be just as big of douchebages, but I've also known some that were the most laid back, guys at the gym, courteous and put their weights back so they don't bother me. The guys that do roids strictly for competition, they usually keep to themselves, often workout with sweats/hoodies, and just do their thing, they don't bother anyone. It's the guys that do roids just to out do the other guy's at the gym, wearing super tight shirts, just flaunting their physique with their attitudes that I can't stand

i hate it when i see girls bust their phones out to take pictures of either themselves or their friends working out.. totally unnecessary at a gym environment.

Mind i say that these are the unattractive ones..

the attractive ones i do not mind.

So yeah someone at my gym had been taking the dumbbells off the racks, walking them over to the mirror and leaving them all over the floor. Someone had been doing that for awhile and I just discovered the culprit.

It was some middle-aged guy who wears dad-shorts and birkenstocks... to the gym. Figures. He apparently needs to watch himself do bicep curls.

Sometimes I find it more offensive when the gym staff doesn't do anything about situations like this. I know they want to please everyone, but when you have someone disregarding the rules for so long, they need to speak to the culprit when it's inconveniencing everyone else.

Or when there's an overall level on uncleanliness. There's no possible way they couldn't have noticed the pile of crusty paper towels all around the garbage can (usually because the garbage hasn't been emptied in awhile...)

I'm curious if there's ever been a gym that threatened to ban someone or remove their membership if they did anything that's been discussed so far..

A few days ago I think I saw signs at my gym that they would revoke your membership if they see you don't rerack the free weights. Cleanliness isn't a problem on the part of the gym since I always see this lady running around emptying the garbage cans and running a vacuum over the floors. What I don't get is why it seems like I'm the only person who wipes things down. Whether it be an elliptical I use or the weight machines (I don't really know anything proper for free weights), I always wipe everything down. Theres paper towel dispensers and spray bottles with cleaner all over but it seems that everyone ignores them.

having worked in the industry for over a decade, I can tell you this, no one will ever be banned for this reason (alone). The only times I've seen or heard about people getting their memberships revoked was for fighting or doing something REALLY illegal like selling drugs. I've heard of people getting banned for personal training when they weren't suppose to... That's about it. The problem with gyms is that it's a business like everything else... they try really hard to bring in new members and would rather tolerate with people's bad habits than to kick them out, especially for not re-racking their weights. It's all about numbers with the membership department. Revoking someone's membership would mean one less member, which means $25-$100 less a month for the company.

I'm sure some people would love their memberships revoked with the long term contracts.

it's cheaper than cancelling, really. At Retro Fitness where I went, they charge you two additional months even after you tell them you're leaving. It's in the contract you signed.

Apparently Arnold agrees with us on this one:

"Someone on Reddit asked what it was like for me to train in hotel gyms or other unfamiliar gyms on the road," Schwarzenegger posted. "The answer is: just like it is for you. There is no waiting to train until you have perfect circumstances. I improvise with whatever is available.

"I walk in and my only rule is to keep moving, for a pump and cardio at the same time. Rest as little as possible. After an hour, you will feel fantastic and your muscles won't know what hit them."

saw this a couple weeks ago at the gym. a guy went to the squat rack ahead of me so i'm thinking "aw shit fine i'll prep the rack/cage further in." as i'm prepping...he starts doing bicep curls with the squat bar. i nearly threw up in disgust. worst part is...pretty sure he was doing it there because there was a girl in the same area. once she left, he finished his "set" and left. this all took place in the amount of time it took me to set up the other rack. unbelievable. should've taken a pic of him to put on a hall of shame or something.

Always classic Has any woman ever been won over like that?

Someone at my gym stole a bunch of those selector keys for the weight machines. Seriously now? Pricks stealing things just to piss people off...
