I just finished Phase 1 of P90X. I went through 70 days of it last year then fell off the wagon. Hopefully, I'll keep up with it this time around.

Gah, I really want to pick this back up but I don't have any room in my house!

I remember I felt great after doing p90x for awhile. Maybe I'll look around the garage (ermm...long term storage/laundry room) and move some stuff around. Although, I think I'd feel ridiculous if my roommates walk-in while I'm doing yoga.

My boss has been doing it for three weeks now, full out change in lifestyle - diet, exercise regimen, and supplements - and he says he feels amazing. Has tons of energy now. I wish I had that feeling again, just don't wanna slip out of the routine again (did P90X for 1.5 mos)

I could go to work, play a full-court basketball game, even go drinking afterwards and I'd still have energy late at night. Woke up feeling refreshed too...

Same thing happened to me last year. I finished Phase 2, and somehow, life got busy and I fell off the wagon. I started again about 2 months ago, and despite the bumps and bruises along the way, tomorrow, I'll be starting Phase 3 (Just finished 60 days).

The best tip I can provide is to make sure you're mentally ready BEFORE you start. If you're not ready, do other forms of exercises to get back into the groove of things. I think the first week is always the most difficult - not only due to the pain (as you can attest I'm sure since you did it before) but the lifestyle adjustments you need to make (Buying the right food, supplements and develop a routine to do this exercise & cooking your food). If you're looking to just do the exercises, you may not need to make that big of an adjustment since it's only an one hour commitment, but to see all that P90X has to offer, you MUST follow through with the diet (To me, this is the more difficult part)

In sum, look over your schedule and carve out a specific hour 6 days out of a week to devote to this. Then, at least during phase 1, do it every day at that specific hour so you can develop a new habit/routine. Lastly, again, make sure to do it only when you're mentally ready. Good luck!

^Good advice. Thanks.

I've finally moved to a bigger place, so I started this back up today. Last time I did this (over a year ago) I was less fit but ate a lot healthier. I can do many more push ups/pull ups etc than I could before but I am a bit chubbier.

I'm going to go ahead and do what I should have done a long time ago: ban fast food (at least on weekdays). I did this with soda and beer and it helped a lot. Time to hit up Publix!

This time my little brother is doing the program with me so we can keep each other in line. I'm really looking forward to making some progress.

Sorry for the double post, I forgot to ask a question.

I know this has been asked a million times before, but apparently I suck at searching.

Do you guys recommend protein powder/shakes? What are some good tasting kinds and where do you guys normally buy from?

Thanks in advance, I'll certainly appreciate any feedback.

Edit: After looking around a bit a lot of people recommend N.O. products. I'm working out in the evenings and already have a hard enough time getting to sleep, so those are out. I'm thinking about just good ol' fashion Whey Protein.

I bought a 5lb jug of this in chocolate. No sugar or artificial sweeteners, just whey protein. 5lb is overkill though, takes forever to finish. I would highly recommend some kind of protein shake though, it will give you that extra boost of pure protein and I believe whey helps with the absorption?

Amazon Amazon

I got chocolate, it tastes fine with 2% milk. I would recommend the protein shake, though I forget the optimum points when you should take it.... either during and after or before....

Thanks Costco! I went ahead and bought a giant tub of Strawberry. My brother and I both are going to be using it so the 5 lbs may be useful.

I'm not sure when exactly the "optimum" time to drink it is either. I've read that there is a one hour "window of opportunity" after you work out where it is most useful. I'll probably just drink it right after my work out.

The link you posted states: "For even better results, consume your daily protein allotment for over 4-6 small meals spread evenly throughout the day. Example Using a 180 lb Individual: 180 lb x 1g protein/lb body weight = 180g/day; 180g/6 small meals = 30g of protein/meal. " I have heard of this before, but never in reference to working out. I'll have to do some research and see if it really matters.

Now time buy some heavier dumbbells... working out can get expensive!

The chocolate and the vanilla are the two best flavors. Strawberry and tropical punch are horrible. I mean, fucking god awful.

I like Optimum Nutrition' Casein for days when I've done a lot of activity. Shaker with some milk before bed. Otherwise, whey for everyday use

Banana is ok. Fruit has a lot of sugar so you don't need to eat much of it. I generally stick with some carrots and almonds. And an egg.

Sorry, kinda dropped off the radar for a while. I ordered it and am (have as well) going to use it as a meal replacement. I like it. I am dedicated to starting P90x2 monday. I will take (and not loose the first and 30 day like p90x) to track my results. Ive gained back about 40 of the 50+ that lost with pt 1 (mostly to stress and the wife having the baby and no time)

Waaa!?!?! I'm sorry but in my opinion there is no excuse to gain back that much weight. I gained back 5 pounds and I'm already beating myself for it.

Sorry if you are truly going through hard times, but even through hard times I eat less...

Well from stress (lets see you handle 2 teenage girls, a 2 1/2 year old and a baby on top of a 15hr work day and not have stress or time to do anythign ), living on the road, and no time its not too hard. When you have nothing but mom and pop restaurants, overeating, go back to drinking 6-7 pepsi's a day and not working out it can happen (was over a year to get back to it) Oh well shit happens. Ill loose it again. Im determined and have the time now.

I think so. I am.

The greenberry isnt as bad if you blend some fruit with it. Ive followed some of the recipes and they make it better. The chocolate is good. I think im going to order the strawberry next time in place of the greenberry.

It just seemed like you blame time and stress on your weight gain but you mentioned that you overeat and drink 6-7 Pepsi's a day. Well, those food and 6-7 Pepsi's were not forced down your throat.

Sorry if I sound like I'm directly offending you. I'm honestly trying to help you get better. It's mainly because I was helping soldiers in the Army get out of the Overweight Program by giving them straight facts to let them realize it's not the environment's problem but their own.

The army has an overweight program?

Is it for people that fail the physical tests due to weight? Or soldiers that pack on the lbs?

Yup!

http://www.armyg1.army.mil/hr/weight/

After every physical fitness test, every soldier is weighted. I have not encountered it myself, but even if you passed the physical fitness test and you are deemed overweight, then you are a NO-GO under height/weight test and considered overweight.

Some soldiers are just big in muscles and sometimes fail the height/weight test but will pass the tape test (tape for body fat). Most of the time these muscular guys will pass the tape test, overriding the failed height/weight test.

The overweight program is different per unit. At my unit, if you are overweight, you do not get down time. During down time, you train with the Sergeant involved in the overweight program, which included me. I ALWAYS had the motivation to get these guys back into weight cause cmon, I want my down time too. These training are basically informal exercises to get their sweat going. And it doesn't stop there. I have to constantly watch what they eat. In the chow hall, I can't tell them what they can and can't eat. It's against Army policy I guess. But I always have a way to influence them on not getting that ice cream desert or mooncake.

Im not blaming anyone but myself. Its just easier to binge on bad things when your time is short (stop for gas in the middle of no where, grab a 16oz soda and a burger or hot dog or 2 etc..) . I know soda is the big player here. When i quit that last time i saw AND felt the difference almost within a week or 2.

Oh and its not like i look obese. Im 6'5 235. Just have a little bit of a mid section id like to get rid of.

I'm switching over to this when my current program ends this week. If I can make it thru this and depending on fitness level I'm joining a crossfit gym.

BTW, just out of curiosity, are you supposed to be able to do the same amount of reps when going through the second set? I basically was doing 25 pushups/10 pullups (unassisted) through the whole thing, but on the wide pullups, I could only do 8 on the second time around.

Also, as I plan on building size/strength through the program, should I increase the weight on the next chest & back? I decided to stick with 10 reps rather than 15. Thanks!

Diet is huge to see gains. When you change your diet (usually start with the fat shredder) and do the lean program PAY attention to your workout results and energy levels. Under the lean and diet you may run short on energy and may need to change your dietary intake to make up for it.

I saw the largest results when i did the p90x Doubles. (basically the lean/cardio in the am and standard p90 in the afternoon/evening) When i had the diet portion dialed in my energy levels were thru the roof even doing the edoubles

So I've been doing lean since may 13th. Everything had stayed the same since.
Gonna stop that program and switch back to regular.

I dunno.
