I started drinking lots of water......
......and I'm slimming down. Holy sh!t. I read online about workouts and they said to drink lots of water so that your body can burn fat efficiently. Males should drink about a gallon a day while females drink 3 quarts. Not only that I've been losing weight but my stomach region is slimming. I've been drinking plenty of water for about two weeks now.
I work out regularly but I never drank that much water afterwards because I usually don't sweat that much and never really felt thirsty, even after a two mile run. I know it sounds weird but I usually feel thirsty after a workout and if I neglect it for about 5 minutes, my thirst goes away. But I'm loving what I'm seeing/feeling and I will continue my water consumption

Wow, good to know that. I think I need to start drinking a lot of water too. It's not like I drink soda or some juice, I don't get that thirsty through out the day. Maybe half gallon at the max is what I drink.. I just started running last week too.

I seriously drink 3 gallons a day. I don't mean to, I'm just thirsty all the time. When I worked in IM&T behind a desk and didn't work out I still drank 2 gallons a day. Now that I bounce from the desk to the field and work out like a mad man I drink 3. Only problem is my body gets used to flushing it out quickly and I wake up in the morning feeling like I have a hangover from dehydration, not to mentioning peeing twice a night. One thing to keep in mind for those that drink a lot of water, make sure to get electrolytes.

No wonder I question my body when my weight stays about the same even working out three days a week. But honestly I've lost 4 pounds already.
I just don't want to lead people into thinking that drinking water alone will make them lose weight.

i know the logic about weight loss....a simple formula is:
calorie intake > calories burnt = gain weight
calorie intake < calories burnt = weight loss
am just guessing water cleans out ur system ? hence releasing harmful toxics hence increasing metabolism hence burning more calories hence weight loss ??? i could be wrong, dont quote me on this !!!

Water has none as far as I know. Gatoraid has a lot but has too much sugar. I dilute Gatoraid or use the cheap powder in a weak mixture most of the time though sometimes I just prefer pure water.

I know for sure gatorade/powerade has electrolytes, but I saw kirkland's sports drink at costco and didn't know if they had electrolytes also. I'm guessing any drink that is labeled "sports drink" has electrolytes?

i think whole foods has a water with more electrolytes and its only .50$ for a sports bottle and .5l or prolly more....dont remember....
but also high electrolytes is for someone doing excessive work/workout.....athletes or some like that....for a person who is just hitting the gym for 1-2 hours might not give too much importance to it !!! from wiki![Big Grin](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)

Sports drinks
Electrolytes are commonly found in sports drinks. In oral rehydration therapy, electrolyte drinks containing sodium and potassium salts replenish the body's water and electrolyte levels after dehydration caused by exercise, diaphoresis, diarrhea, vomiting, intoxication or starvation. Athletes exercising in extreme conditions (for three or more hours continuously e.g. marathon or triathlon) who do not consume electrolytes risk dehydration (or hyponatremia)[1].
A simple electrolyte drink can be home-made by using the correct proportions of water, sugar, salt, salt substitute for potassium, and baking soda.[2] However, effective electrolyte replacements should include all electrolytes required by the body, including sodium chloride, potassium, magnesium, and calcium that can be either obtained in a sports drink or a solid electrolyte capsule.[3]

Not so obvious to most people man. Sometimes we forget to drink water because we only do so when we're thirsty. These past few days I've been "forgetting" to drink water. It's easily forgetful doing something that you don't need to do.
Basically, the trick is to remember to drink water. Try to remember to go to the bathroom to piss, even though you don't feel like it.

Scrap the Gatorade and other commercial sports drinks, they mostly just contain sugar and can be just as bad for you as soda. If you are looking to get more electrolytes look to get a powder that you can mix yourself. Two that I use regularly and would recommend to anyone are Ultima Replensher Lemonade and Hammer Nutrition HEED. Both of these mixes are sugar free, gluten free, and contain no artificial ingredients, etc.
