The Comprehensive Moleskin/Felt Tint Protection DIY Thread

After taking my chances the first time around, I recently had my tint reinstalled when dozens of annoying vertical scratches developed on all of my windows. Even though I think the scratches developed because the tint installer didn't know what he was doing (during the install he inverted the rubber sealer piece so that it collects dirt), I did not take any chances the second time around. There is a lot of good information on this site for a DIY moleskin install; this thread compiles all of the good info into one place.

I recommend installing the rear doors first, because it takes at least one door to get the procedure down. If you make any mistakes, at least it is in the back where it is less noticeable. To take apart the rear door panels:

I ordered 1/2"x1/16"x25 ft self adhesive felt strips from:
http://www.duro-felt.com/products.html
They ship for free and it shipped very quickly. The strips are a good fit, and seem like a perfect solution for the scratching problem. I used seperate strips on each blade. If you want to do both blades at once, you will need 1" strips.
I know there is a vender that sells the moleskin strips if you would prefer ($$$):

Here are some pictures for a TL install (see page 2):

and a video:

Before applying the felt strips, I sanded the rubber sealer to allow for a better bond. Although the felt strips already have an adhesive backing, I added a little superglue to make sure they never peel away from the rubber sealer and streak on the window. So far, no scratches and no adhesive streaking.

I hope this helps anyone looking for DIY moleskin install. I know there are a ton of threads on this subject already, but I would like to think this is one of the most useful ones.

BTW, I have 04 CG with 30% Huper Optik Ceramic all around and 50% on the windshield. Before I get flamed for doing the windshield, let me just say:
-It makes almost no difference looking out from the inside
-Looks good from the outside (more reflective)
-Cuts down on glare (noticed immediately)
-Keeps inside much cooler
-Makes all other tint look darker from outside

Back from the dead. I've done some moleskin on my back windows, but like many here, the adhesive just doesn't hold up in the high heat over time. So the moleskin has moved a bit since I installed it. Can anyone recommend a glue to put on the moleskin (in addition to the built in adhesive in come with) to make sure that the moleskin will properly and permanently adhere to the rubber blades over the long term?

First, I don't have moleskin on my car so I've not used this in this application, but the best glue I've ever used is Gorilla Glue. It is a polyurethane glue and is very tough. It does 'swell' as it cures so use it sparingly. Also use some latex or nitrile gloves since it is hard to get off your skin.

BTW I've had tint on my car for 6 years now. HO Ceramic. Not a single scratch and no mole skin. They key I was told was to thoroughly clean the interior wiper of any residual glue. This will collect dirt which in turn is the source of the scratching.
