Need help deciding.
I'm looking to getting rid of my 05 TL A/T for a new tlx. I've pretty much read every post under the tlx forum and cant seem to make up my mind just yet. Now I know the 2015 models have the transmission issue so that's out of the picture so what are the differences in year models from 16, 17, or 18 besides the obvious body, which model should I go with not really a "big baller" to afford the 18 but willing to push my budget if that's the better choice on reliability. it's the same exact transmission in all of the TLX's...
TEST DRIVE them to get a feel for what the transmission feels like..
once you've got more seat time in a TLX, the decision gets easier and easier...TEST DRIVE them to figure out which one drives better FOR YOU.

Transmissions and car vibrations are the most 2 common problems that dealers cannot fix. Like Justin said, test drive them. I personally would avoid '15 and '16, maybe '17, but probably go with '18.

If you plan on keeping the car as long as your TL Go 18 or 19. The 9AT is still far from perfect, but the rest fo the car is great. Go Aspec it is a great car. You give up a few minor features, but the car is very attractive. I believe Acura extended the warranty on the 9AT to 10 years, but that may just be the earlier models. My guess is even if you had trouble wit the 9AT they might be good about it as they have taken so much grief over it now. If you don;t need the V6 then the i$ is a wonderful car as that 8DCT is one of the best in the business and I suspect that car will last 200K miles without any issues.

Without a doubt, if you can afford it, go with the 2018. Better exterior styling, better interior materials, better infotainment system, Apple Car Play, and a much improved suspension. The Aspec suspension is a perfect blend of comfort and sport. While the V6 still is stuck with the 9T they squeezed everything they could out of it. Yes, occasionally you'll find yourself a gear short in the 30-40 MPH range yet the V6 is such that if you choose to you can power your way right through it. The 2018 has been out over a year now and I've not read any complaints about the transmission. In my opinion it's got to be one of the smoothest shifting units out there. I owned a 2015 before my Aspec and the difference is literally like night and day. I strongly suggest springing for SHAWD, If you can't afford an Aspec I'd go at least for a SHAWD tech. As to the vibration problems, not all cars are affected. Mine's does not have the problem. Simply take the car you're looking to buy on a long test drive to see if it suffers from the issue.

Get a 2018 as you'll get a decent deal on it with the 2019s coming in. Tranny is not perfect but is better than the 2015-17.

Oddly they were able to slip the 10AT into the RLX for 18 where they will not even sell 1000mof them, not sure why the TLX could not have gotten it.

I exclusively drive my Aspec in Sport mode and I’m generally happy with how it shifts. From a sports sedan perspective it could shift faster; however, as a daily driver with a bit of sport thrown in its more than acceptable. I think one thing about most multi-gear transmissions (8+ gears) is that they’re constantly changing gears and some folks don’t like the feeling.
If you want faster shifts in the TLX try driving the car in Sports +. There’s absolutely no shifting delays and it’s a hoot to drive. The problem is that at least in my mind the mileage penalty in Sports + simply doesn’t justify the fun factor.
Ive always been a bit skeptical about the learning logic claim for the 9AT, yet it does appear that driving the car a bit aggressively leads to the transmission overall performing more aggressively.

Ima test drive the 17,18 and 19 if they all feel the same I'll probably go with the 17 model. Aspec is sexy and all but being a college student dropping all the money on a car isnt really a choice I'd prefer. We'll see once I test drive them and see which I go with. Hopefully since the 19 is out the 18 should be cheaper

I drive in Sport on my 2018 SH AWD Tech and no transmission or vibration issues either.

Yeah tough decision for the new TLX. I am currently in a 16 Accord V6 Coupe lease and i'm getting the itch even though I still like the car. I have like 9 payments left but i had a 2013 V6 before that. I had two TSX's also in the past right before the 13 Accord coupe V6. I do not care for the 18 Accord and disappointed no more V6 though they claim the turbo 4 2.0 is just as powerful. I'm sorry, i have a tough time for losing displacement and forcing a smaller engine to make more power. Anyway, I've tossed around the thought of a Mustang, Camaro, or Challenger due to no more coupe for Honda and no more V6, and then there is the 18/19 TLX A-Spec. A cross between the great looking TL, not the last generation but the one before and the 2010 TSX. They nailed the design with the A-Spec on the outside. the downside is reading the issues with vibration (maybe they fixed it for the 2019?) no remote start, that weird dial in the middle of the dash to use Android Auto with also the somewhat dated dual screen setup. The lower screen look a bit too embedded into the dash and dated like it has big bezels. The modern displays are raised out a bit and less bezel look. Is that a deal breaker, maybe not. As for the performance, is AWD required? Also i've read that when slowing down in lower gear and then getting on it again it seems to lag. I guess I'll have to test drive to know for sure but the few shortcomings (and every car has some), there is no perfect car at at any price point. The good news The new look Camaro will be out in a few months for 2019 model year and that will probably have a few bugs too with it being new. I know, cross shopping all over the place but you can thank Honda for that. I would probably have considered a new Accord if they did not remove the coupe and also the V6. I'd consider it if i could like the exterior style and i just cannot get there. I've tried a few times and i cannot get with that long in the tooth look. I bet Honda redesigns it in a couple of years. Has anyone had any reservations getting a TLX A-spec and then got one and said wow this is the car? I've leased Honda's/Acura's since 2002 and nothing else straight since then so it's easy to just go back to Honda and Acura due to the easy leasing and knowing what you generally get, but I just don't want to lease due to being easy and then get a car that I'm like bored with in 3 months. That's not good in an new lease.
