Poll: Need your help deciding (Please everyone help!)

I have a decision to make...here goes:

I have to opportunity to purchase the following:

91 NSX/IVORY /59,000 Miles
RM NOS(Brent Cobb just installed for me)
C/T SuperTrap Exhaust / HKS intake
Custom 18" Chrome Rims
M Body kit
Celeron Stereo (Cass, single cd and changer)
and alot of extra things.........etc.

I don't know the purchase price of the NSX yet, but have talked with the person (a new friend) and we will be discussing it further, initial thoughts will be around 35-40K.

So I can sell my CL-S, and hopefully payoff that loan, then take out another loan to purchase the NSX from my friend. Or however the Credit Unions work load stuff out. I have a great interest rate of 7%, so payment won't be that much more than they are now.

What would you guys suggest that I do? Should I take the chance and get the NSX (if the price is right), or stay with my CL-S and upgrade it throughout they years of ownership?

Thanks for your suggestions and help.

Have you sat in one lately? I'm only around 6'2" and had to use a pry-bar and a shoe-horn just to get in it. I still think the CLS is more comfortable.

However, the NSX moves you a point higher on the pimp meter!

What a hard decision. NSXs are nice but this one is 10 years old. Regardless of miles I'm pretty sure something will happen to the car since its so old. I dont know where you are from but if winter is bad you can't drive it winter time

This isn't a problem, seeing as though I am only 5'11". I sat in a '95 the other day at the dealership, while getting my oil change done on my CL-S. he he

I would love to jump on the opportunity, but wanted to think rationally about the decision, and get all of your guys thoughts and opinions.

You know a used car loan is about 5 percentage points higher. Not to mention your insurance will probably double. On top of that, how do you know what he did to that NSX...59k sure..but 59K of abuse is a lot!! I always thought like this....if the idiot fixed it up....he probably dogged the shit out of it.

I suggest you check the insurance rates and the cost of new tires. Also, I'm certain that replacement parts won't be cheap either!

I love the NSX, but will never own one as my primary mode of transportation. Secondary, maybe.

Good points, keep them coming...

I know insurance won't be cheap...and I still have another year to wait until I am 25 and get the rates to drop.

Also, his car was "well taken care of". Not driven harshly at all. The only "racing" style driving was done at the track. It has all the records and it is excellent shape.

I didn't think about the car loans for used cars being higher, thanks for pointing that out, I will look into what kind of rate I can get.

Keep the suggestions and opinions coming

INSURANCE INSURANCE INSURANCE Check that first ! Then how long do the tires last, I've heard "NOT LONG". High cost to maintain. Basically "a rich persons car".
I would El Paso, as they say in Texas......

i dunno man,
the nsx is sweet, but i wouldnt want it as my daily driver...especially a 10 yr old car...even if it was a honda/acura. not only do u hafta think about insurance costs, but maintenence costs. i figure parts for the nsx as well as labor is gonna be a little higher on it than the cl-s since its an "exotic" car. if it were 5 yrs old, yeah, i'd do it. but 10, nah...i'll stick w/ the new cl-s and drop a s/c, whenever that happens.

NSX's are hot, but no matter what you drive there is ALWAYS something nicer, newer, shinier, faster, bigger, more rare, more reliable, more comfortable or just more "better" than what you've got!

avengerjr,

Try checking with your local NSX chapter. They have a program whereby they will send their member out to check over the car and test drive it. Then they'll get back to you and let you know if it's worth the price as well as the longevity of this car. This occurs in Hawaii, and supposedly it's standard across the nation.

First of all its not at all practical, comfy, not really that fast, higher insurance, and it coast a grip to get the clutch changed plus higher to maintain. If you have the cheese to waist atleast get a
newer one . Call this # 713-972-7900 ask for Sunjay. He deals with high end cars and he knows his shit. He located in houston. He can also tell u what that car is worth. Give him my name -ZIA- he'll take care of you. Hope I was helpful --Zia

....and another thing to mention is that you are still young and have plenty of years left to own the car of your dreams. It may not seem so but there are plenty of driving years left for you to get into something nice without having to go back 10 years. I would guess that after a year or so, you'll be looking to get out of that NSX and into something else. I wouldn't do it.

"Money is nothing and live for today" is for the birds. Don't believe it unless you want to be living at 65 the same way you are living at 25 (financially).

My 2 cents.

This is a NO BRAINER, unless you can easily afford both. Go with getting to work on time everyday or you won't be able to afford either. A 10 yr old exotic vs a highly reliable new car? Gimme a break. When you ought to have an NSX, it won't be an either/or decision.

Damn Ken, I think we share the same brain! Personally, I don't think it's a very practical move at all. I'm 34 and don't expect my "dream car" to come along for at least another 10 years.

I have always gone by a simple rule regarding cars. "If you cannot afford a new (or almost new )one, you should not buy one." I am with some of the other guys, a 10 year old NSX might be a good choice for a second car, but not for a daily driver.

don't do it!

I'm also with the majority here. A 10yr old NSX must not be your only car. If its not your only car than it might be possible. Maintanence records, (verifiable), if they do exist than that is a big plus. But, no matter what kind of car it is, (especially an exotic) after 10 years, it should be needing expensive parts and servicing.
Insurance? É heh heh, at least your not living in NJ. Whatever you decide take your time and don't jump at it. I don't know but the fact that your asking us if this is a good idea might indicate that maybe you shouldn't try and finance this.

All of the above is moot is your FIW!

Btw 59000 miles in only 10 years?

Good Luck É

F**k it. Buy the NSX, remember the bitch factor. My roommate owns a boxster. I own a CL. No girl at the bar ever ran over to my car and asked for a ride. Whereas my roommate has. An NSX will be a bitch magnet. Do you really think they would know that the car is 10 years old. All they know is that it looks pimp and that you just told them it was a 2000 model year. If gash is your goal, buy the NSX. Of course this is advice from another 24 year old, so what the f**k do I know.
