I "kind" of liked the concept. the actual TLX is more boring looking... my first impression was that I was very underwhelmed.... I think Acura screws themselves by showing off a sporty / cool looking concept...knowing they are NOT going to be able to make the production version look as good... so everyone remembers the cooler concept..and then the production version looks lamer.. because we are all comparing it to the concept.

I will admit this - when the 4G first came out I HATED it.. I thought it was sooooo fugly.

Fast forward several years later..and seeing many "fixed up" 4Gs.. with body kits, drops, and wheels..and they looked fabulous. My mind was so changed I ended up buying a 4G!

Just like the 4G took time to grow on me.. it may be the same with this new TLX. I will reserve "writing it off" until I see some models with a drop, wheels, and whatever body kit Acura may make.

it's possible we could see some really nice ones in the near future.

I'm am also optimistic Acura could offer a Type S type version in the next few years and incorporate the RLX hybrid tech into it -.. 290 hp with some electric motors to add power... when you have a car that is a couple hundre pounds lighter than the outgoing TL..w oudl be fast. yes the electric motors would add weight..but if they could kep the overall weight to about what a 2009-2014 TL SH-AWD weighs..but the car packs almost 80 more HP due to electric motors..that sucker would fly.

my fingers are crossed... if in a few years there is no model with more power... and my existing car is due for replacement..then I will go Audi, BMW or get a CPO M3 or S4....

This is what we get when we cross breed a Toyota Corolla with a Lexus IS.

This was designed here in North America btw.

The TLX definitely looks so much better!

I liked the prototype better but I still like the production model. After I test drive it if I like the way it drives I'm going to buy it. The interior is really nice too. I just wonder what pricing is going to be.

-The Base wheels
-The silver trim in the interior will scratch all to hell

-The hidden exhausts
-The lack of DWB suspension

-Overall car looks strained in a way

Jesus can they do anything right???
On the engines, do you really think quoting HyundaiPower will get that arguement anywhere? The Cadenza's 3.3 V6 makes "290HP" be can never beat Toyota's "268HP" V6 in most/any acceleration test (0-60 is identical, in the more telling quarter mile, the Toyota is often a hair quicker and at least 1.5MPH faster). Sure, the Cadenza weighs more, but it has a better power to weight ratio, too.

As for plastic engine covers, the intake manifolds are already make of plastic. Adding metal (and more weight - car companies are obsessing over mere grams, nowadays) up top won't be of any realistic benefit.

The bigger deal with the 2.4 is likely top end power. The Accord peaks at 6400RPM. The new engine peaks at 6800RPM. Though the port injected engines peaked at redline - 7000RPM.

I kind of like the center console but I agree about the exposed cupholder and the chrome.

What is Honda's workaround on the possible carbon deposit build ups on its direct injection engines? Port injected is what Toyota/Lexus uses, correct?

We don't want the BMW/Audi routine of blasting walnut shell bits now would we?

"more techs"? Oh -- so like the Acura equivalent of the Geek Squad? I certainly hope not.

oooo I love interior and the front end, a nice lip will do wonders for it. but The rear end, imo, is so uninspiring and not unique at all though :/
I would like to test drive it though to see just how much better the driving experience really is....
but im surprised at how much hate there is

Despite the comments here, the general media and social interaction comments have been very favorable. I'm encouraged and hope that this is the kind of hit that Acura needs.

From now on, Acura will be separated more from Honda, which is something that the North American dealership organization has been lobbying for. They've wanted that for a long, long time and now they have it. Let's hope they use it to good effect.

It's also encouraging to see Hargett get ahead a little bit. I was afraid that people would blame him for the sales of the 4G TL. It was an excellent design and an incredibly nice car that was destroyed by the sudden turn in the economy in 2008...it was too late to turn back with a car that was a 2009 model year.

Hargett had a great car design in the 2009 model year, and it looks like he has a great car design in the 2015 model year.

Safe to say Acura's biggest challenge is to convince 3G TL owners to let go?

We all forget one important thing. Acura thought they are the elite because of the mass success of the 3G. But if you look back at all the other generations, Acura was never as luxurious as Lexus, BMW or Benz.

Yeah, with Lexus aside, I guess we can be chauffeured back and forth the BMW and Benz dealerships for warranty work.

The 3G TL really wasn't as nice as everyone remembers. It was a great looking car, but the interior materials and leather quality left something to be desired IMO.

Half a cars faults are overlooked if it looks good around here. Shame.

I like the Q50. Reminds me of a catfish. But Infiniti has been known to come out with radical designs anyhow. A distinctive look. One thing for sure, is you're not going to mistake any of the models for something else.

I really think Acura will have a big hit with this new TLX. As I look at more pictures of it, it's definitely inspired by the 3G TL, and certainly looks much fresher than the 3G TL (which I owned previously). I agree with some that the rims leave a bit to be desired, but hopefully there will be options there.

Thanks for confirming that the Q50 does look like a fish, and you are right -- a catfish.

I guess they are bound by their name and have to have products with no corners, no matter how awkward they may look. Hehe.

Is it wrong that I'm still driving my 2003 Acura TL Type-S with 163,000 miles? I've kept it so nice, it still is a beautiful looking car in my opinion

I am waiting for something I really like, the TLX has my attention, but still something left to be desired. The version unveiled a few months ago seemed more badass?

Im just hoping the Concept wheels are offered. Or something very similar with the same offset. I loved how the wheels on the concept filled the fenders. Every wheel Ive seen so far on the production model leaves a lot to be desired. I wish Acura took more risks and made wider wheels with better offsets.

Needless to say, I am disappointed with this model. I owned the 3g TL, and now the 4g, but I will not be moving up to this in the near future. It's just too bland. Even little things like the steering wheel are nagging at me--looks boring compared to 4g model.
For whatever reason whether it be finances, their lease not up, etc....whenever a new model appears (and in every way better than the outgoing model), people try to find every reason as to why their outgoing model is still superior...I love it lol

May work for some cars but definitely not the 4g TL....

Not blown by it since I like cars that are edgy (4G TL and ZDX owner). Ill reserve final judgement until I see it with a kit and nice wheels... will consider cadi, lexus or even infiniti if all else fails.

While I won't say I think the Q50 is the UGLIEST car they put out, it is definitely that grill that screws it up. Yes indeed it looks like a catfish, anyone who says "no" is lying to themselves. (Or maybe they look like a catfish themselves and are getting defensive.) I think the G50 looks better than the G35 sedans, but not better than those old G35 coupes, those were pretty sexy. The Q50 at least looks sporty, it looks like the front end of a coupe. It's low and wide. I'll give it credit there.

Here's the thing as far as grilles go though, I think this catfish at least looks better than the 2009 4G grille. Uh oh, don't shoot me. I didn't want to be part of that scuffle earlier.

But yea, this is why I mentioned it. I bet the TLX would look AWESOME with that same kind of treatment, it is a much cleaner design. And I'm not even asking for a 500hp GT-R engine squeezed in.

Yup it does look like a catfish which I dont mind. I still find the look aggressive which I like. Only thing that bothers me is that the rear look like a sonata and on some angles the car looks like a mazda 6.

I've mentioned on other threads about how I felt back in 2003, as well as some people mentioning here that some people were not impressed by the 3GTL when it was first shown. As if we say how today how awesome the 3GTL was but forgot some things about it. I was a fan of the 2GTL so this new one was quite a departure. All I could say was the design was clean, yes. But it just looked like a bland slab of metal to me compared to the old one. Thankfully the production model was jazzed up a bit to look better. Then when I saw it in person and drove it I felt a lot better about it. It grew on me. I was impressed. But still not enough for me to buy it.

Then they showed THIS. The A-Spec prototype. A concept car is shown all hooked up with wheels and a drop to get people excited. For us enthusiasts it also shows how the basic design can be stretched to the envelope. The concept showed us the car has potential to be modded into something like that. When this was shown suddenly I started realizing possibilities. I didn't see anything but base model TLs on the street in my area. Came to AZine and saw there is a whole scene of people modding and I got some ideas. It's no wonder that my present car looks somewhat like these pictures. (except better ) I think that red TLX prototype will still bring in sales by enthusiasts for this reason. It's up to you if you want to put in the work.

If you look closely the A-Spec prototype, you can see the cues they put into the MMC/Type-S. That's why many are looking forward to that. I think it's sad the day of LAUNCH people are talking about that, I can't wait that long.

20" wheels and decreasing wheel gap is OK for a limited production run. To put them on a high production car is a HUGE headache for them. Mainstream people are not enthusiasts and drive their cars like an 8yr old pushing a shopping cart. They are abusive and careless. You would get people curbing/cracking wheels, complaining of a stiff ride, bottoming out the suspension, hitting driveway, objects etc. They will then say the car sucks and/or try to claim their damage on warranty. A lot of moronic //M or AMG owners are of this kind. So while most people like the LOOK, the can't deal with the compromises that we can accept.

There is a white TLX under the hashtag #tlx on instagram. It looks like it was at the Honda of America center yesterday.
