Question 2018 A-Spec Hidden Menu, BackUp Cam on in D

Hi All,

Has anyone found any hidden menu's on the top or radio screen yet to check or enable things like the Back-Up Camera while driving?
I'd Like to keep the backup camera on while driving even if it is at low speeds for towing something small and to ensure all is well while driving.

I found some posts for hidden menu's on older models but not sure which have been found for the 2018 A-Specs?

1. Turn the car on
2. Put it in "Reverse"
3. Hold MAP/GUIDE, MENU and CANCEL for 5 secs (Diagnostic Mode) this will keep the reverse cam on until you turn off the car.

Wala..

Gonna try this in the AM.

Edit: of course, the TLX doesn’t have these buttons.

To get into the diagnostic menus in the 2018 TLX, you press and hold info, settings, and back for five seconds. To get to the second level of diagnostic menus, you then hold info for five seconds. I haven’t tried setting the backup camera, but I do know you can turn of ANC temporarily by using the menus.

it didn’t work, was that for the older models as I don’t even have those buttons exactly? But I did try this with the combo of buttons I thought the my could be and still nothing worked. Any other ideas on the correct button configuration?

Okay, I got in to the menu but need to spend time to see if the Camera is hidden in one of the sub menus.

Thank you you for this info and if you find the camera menu hidden please reply

I spent a little time playing with the diagnostic menus earlier today. The only directly rear camera-related setting is to determine whether it's connected or not. I could not find a definite way to keep the rear camera turned on. I'll keep trying, but there are no obvious settings that would allow this.

In the meantime, I'm really glad to be able to see how many GPS satellites the car is tracking (or are they tracking me?....... ). I've found this screen in the hidden menus on every Acura I've owned/leased since 2006.

I stopped by the dealer today for a a wash and the tech told me as long as you are going a good speed you can put the push button reverse and it will just turn the camera only on and not come out of Drive and be safe.

It certainly seems like something that should be safe with the electronic shifter, but if it goes wrong it could go really wrong.

there are youtube videos of a guy driving various cars and at cruising or highway speeds shifting the car in reverse. Nothing happens as these cars have computer sensors for that. Probably after 2-3mph reverse is disabled without applying the brake.

At least when someone tries it they might get a glimpse of the transmission falling out with the rear camera on.

"Good speed"? So, what if I'm going 5 MPH? I'd want at least TWO techs to verify, or, have a signed peace of paper from Acura saying "we promise to replace your transmission of trying this kills it ded".

Wonder why cars don't come with the option to have the backup camera record constantly, like a security camera, just saving the last 24, or 48 hours or whatever, depending on how big of a flash memory card you install...

Edit: Even if I'm going 1.9 MPH, I don't want my car to switch into reverse....

I pulled the Reverse button around 10 MPH and it only brings it to Neutral. Haven't tried it at a slower speed yet. Maybe if I remember the next time I drive, I'll try it. This was done on my 2015 SH-AWD with a recently replaced transmission.

My other cars are able to do this as it is an option including my 2017 Jaguar. Usually cars don’t have this and SUV do for towing monitoring so that’s why most cars don’t have this.

i would never hit reverse under 10MPH so I will only test this above 10MPH for safety reasons.

i would think there has to be a test menu for this as that’s how I got it to work on cars that don’t have push button shifters in the past.

Well, I tried reverse at speeds of 20-40-60-80 and nothing. Just pops into N and gives the error to apply brake first which I wont do.

5-10 MPH, nothing happens, not even Neutral. Anything less than 5 MPH will allow you to shift to Reverse without having to hold the brake pedal. Not sure why the system allows you to do that.

I found some posts for hidden menu's on older models but not sure which have been found for the 2018 A-Specs?
You can trigger the Backup camera by going into diag (Back+settings+info), selecting detailed information (2nd option), unit check, and then Rear Camera. The screen will say Rear Camera - OK, then press either the navi, info or smartphone button (can't remember at the moment but it was the Audio button on the 2016) and the RVC will show up and stay up. In order to back out of it, just press that button (navi, info or smartphone)

I can confirm, it works. Cool!

Edit: you press the “settings” button after the “OK” message.

like I said, this is being used for viewing two items for safety. All my other cars have this as an option so it must be safe if the DOT approved it. Strange the TLX don’t have a delay setting at the very least.

i am very grateful for the OP finding this and helping the community here!

there's actually some rules/driver distraction laws against having active video feed on the front displays as it can distract attention from the road, but Ż\_(ツ)_/Ż

Understood, but the DOT etc still allows some vehicles to do this while a vehicle is in motion. Mostly for viewing what you are towing to ensure it is safe and no issues arise maybe?

So, once activated, does it stay in this setting after you shut off the car? Or, do you activate this setting each time you start the car?

its not similar to post 23 above? I wish I had an easily accessible 2015 TLX to try this on. Should be the same.

The normal menu is the baseline at every startup. You’d have to reqcrivare this setting with each start.

Its basically the same on the 2015 TLX.
Navi + Back + Menu to get into Diag mode.
Select Detailed information -> Unit check -> Rear Camera and then I think the button is either audio or navi to trigger the camera
