Snip it up

I realize this could be more of a Health & Fitness thread, but I think it has it's place in relationships too and would prefer it stays here.

Could you ever go through with a vasectomy? What do you think about losing your swim team?

My wife is 8 1/2 months pregnant with our second, and we have come to the realization that pregnancy sucks for her. Since we have a boy now with a girl on the way, we're committed to being done having kids and plan to wrap this family up nicely before the end of the year. I have offered to get snipped and have a consultation next Monday.

What's your take?

I know people who have had it done and they have no regrets. I wanted to do it, my wife said no.

Couple of buddies had it done, didn't change their sexual life or turn them into feminists... I don't see a problem with it especially since its fast and painless.

I would do it if I was in a similar situation. My buddy had it done, drug free, and he was banging his girl when he got home. He did say that it felt like they pulled his stomach out his sack though, it was a passing feeling he said.

Correct me if I'm wrong but not all vasectomy's are done in the "snip it up" fashion. Aren't some down without needles or cutting or whatever? My uncle had it done years ago and while I don't remember any "issues" or feelings after having it done, I know it's been successful and he's never had regrets

In general, a vasectomy will be performed in your urologist's office or at an outpatient surgical center while you are awake. There are two types of procedures: conventional vasectomy, and no-scalpel vasectomy. During a conventional vasectomy, the urologist makes one or two small cuts in the skin of the scrotum. The vas is cut, and a small piece may be removed, leaving a short gap between the two remaining ends. The doctor then clips or ties the cut ends and closes the scrotal incision with dissolvable stitches. The entire process is then repeated on the other side. During a no-scalpel vasectomy, the urologist feels for the vas under the skin of the scrotum and holds it in place with a small clamp. A special instrument is used to make a tiny puncture in the skin and stretch the opening so the vas can be gently lifted out, cut, then tied or cauterized and put back in place. During a vasectomy, local anesthesia will be injected to numb the area and eliminate pain, but you will be aware of touch, tension and movement during the procedure.

I'd be good with it considering it's a much easier procedure than a woman getting fixed....that sounds barbaric.

I thought about a vasectomy as well, but decided it wasn't necessary, and my wife vacillates between wanting and not wanting another child. Many vasectomies are reversible, FWIW.

So, x 2 on "Whiskers" here...

I plan on getting one either at a second pregnancy or my 30th birthday, I have one kid and want two max. I also don't wanna be in my 50's dealing with teenagers so not having kids in my 30's. If you regret it later there's plenty of kids looking for homes.

Well, I appreciate all of the serious responses here, but honestly, I was hoping to bring up a topic that could create some decent jokes, not turn into a support group. In light of that....

My theory is that she thinks "fixed" guys are more likely to cheat since the risk of getting some random woman pregnant is eliminated. She said she would rather have her tubes tied than me fixed.

The thought has crossed my mind - not me actually cheating, but that there is less risk for someone being promiscuous. At the moment, my wife and I are in fear that we are hyper-fertile, so the thought of risk free sex anytime sounds great.

Was easy relatively painless and quick. The waiting room was longer than the time to do it.
I was in the same boat after the second when he was 3-4 months old and we knew it was all good, I went for the snippy and haven't looked back.

I had it done back in 1996 for similar reasons (BTW, you need a "did it" option on your survey ). Any pregnancy for my wife was high risk - after our second came out healthy I went in shortly after that.

I'll say the idea of a vasectomy is much worse than the actual procedure. They just gave me a valium and I was awake for the procuedure. The valium was VERY needed, considering where the needle goes to inject the novicane.

I did it on a Friday and rested the whole weekend - back to work on Monday. Went for a run Tuesday. Everything was perfectly normal afterward.

It's always a personal decision to get this done but for us it was just dangerous for her to get pregnant again and this provided a solid preventative measure. Much less trouble than her getting her tubes tied.

Also, I've met guys that had it reversed successfully and had a child. It's a bit more involved and will cost you, but the option is always there if something changes.

I've tossed this idea around too. However for far different reasons than the ones previously mentioned.

I have a very close friend who after having one girl kept holding off this procedure for a boy. He has four girls, the last two were twins.

I was sore for a few days. Wasn't allowed to nut for a week so was severely hard up. The first few ejaculations were kind of weird. Plus don't run out and start fucking bareback, you need to let out like 20 nuts before so.

Had it done about a year ago. I don't regret it at all, but apparantly the wife does. She is talking about "maybe we should have a third." Nope.

The best part about the procedure is that you have to start clearing the pipes. My doc told me that was 20 to 30 shots. I went with 30. Great excuse to watch pron or be creative...

Doom and The Stig bring up a good point about the process worth knowing (although the doctors will tell you). You have to clean the gutter 20-30 times then get rechecked before you're all clear.
