In Exactly One Month...
I made the mistake of watching that ep around the time I got married and stupid shit like that will worry you since you're already stressed. If you didn't know, it's his ex's name and his bride hated the fact that Ross and Rachel were still friends.

No, didn't really follow the sitcom. But, yeah...I won't say the wrong name...
...unless Jessica Alba is in the audience or something.

Say, for the married peeps out there...is there a general rule of thumb for how long the thank-you speech should be?
Obviously, we don't want to ramble for hours, but is 5ish minutes okay...?

In that case,
Yummy once Tina hears, "I take the Bengals...uh...Scotty...uh, Tina."
Depends on how long the preceding speeches have gone on, but one should subject the guests to a 5 min. speech at most, and preferably less, unless one is extremely entertaining.
Mine was about 2 minutes, IIRC (which I might not, since the evening was a blur

Even though it will take a lot of work to get YumJack completely plastered so he embarrasses his family and himself, I guess you can tag along (as long as you don't get in the way)
I'll see if I can find a big enough parachute laying around to knit you a freaking dress

IMO, 6.5 minutes is kind of long, unless you have the gift of talent and can pull off a really entertaining speech. Usually though, that's not the case.
I am assuming that there will be other speeches made throughout the night as well (or made back-to-back), so you don't want to hold people back from the party for too, too long....they'll zone out or get restless.
Are you holding a rehearsal dinner? Will you have other opportunities to personally thank or speak to some of the people mentioned in your speech in a more intimate setting? That might be a way of cutting out some of your ramblings...err...speech at the main reception.

Well, in all seriousness, my format is as follows right now:
- Thank the out-of-towner friends (i.e. old classmates)
- My Grandfather (who passed away recently; no, it's not a sob thing)
- My Dad (also deceased; again, nothing sob-worthy IMO)
- Mom
- Sister
- New Mom and New Dad
- Best man/groomsmen
- MOH/bridesmaids
- Tina
Yeah, that's why it's past 6 minutes.
We want to get him drunk, not collapse his lungs.
And Moog...just out of curiosity...is there a Mrs. Moog Monster? :detective

Seriously though, is 5 normal? I always thought 3 was the norm, but then again I usually get drunk at the reception and forget the details
There really is no norm...

I dunno, it must be an Asian thing...cuz, the 4 of the 5 weddings (WTF is with everyone getting married this year?!?) I've been to had more than 3 per side.

-ing my fiancee.
You'll be busy with all your best man duties, anyway, riiiigght?

Serious question....for "research".....don't worry you will find out soon enough.
I smell a chop...
