For the past year or so, when I'm not spending time with my girlfriend, and am hanging out alone at the house, i just feel alone and empty where as I didn't before, and would prefer to do most activities with her around, unless its a guy thing to do with the guys. Is this normal, we have been going out for 4 years.

That's not healthy. Loving another person is one thing, being dependent is another. Some people die from loneliness when their husband/wife of many years die first. Start gaining a side life of your own separate from your gf dude. That isn't healthy.
