I usually avoid this forum because my love life is.....nonexistant lol. Anyway, I have this friend. Tonight she was in my room until like midnight just chatting, when out of the blue she starts asking me if I had ever been in a serious relationship before. I said that most of my 'relationships' had been pretty fleeting, nothing profound, and kinda brushed it off. She kept at it though, and eventually pretty much told me that she really wanted to be 'more than just good friends' and hinted profusely at physical things, kept holding my hand, and sitting as close as she could, hand on thigh.....the whole deal. This girl is very nice, we are in the same situation academically, and study a lot together, but I certainly don't want her as anything beyond that sort of friendship. Any advice on how to avoid this issue in the future and keep things from being very awkward? Is there something I could say that wouldn't sound asshole-ish. This really caught me off guard.

 

Don't avoid it - just be honest as to not lead her on in any way, nor waste her time (if you truly aren't interested). Just be honest, sincere, and gentle. Imagine yourself in her situation and treat her as you would want to be in this situation.

 

^^^ Just make sure she doesn't get the wrong impression or any false hope. Sounds like she likes you a lot since she can be that open about it and you should show her the same courtesy and be open about the way that you feel. Sucks to be let down, but sucks even more to be strung along.

unfortunately, no matter how you put it to her, you'll hurt her feelings. But I;d say the best way is to tell her how good of a friend you think she is, and she's too important to you as that to change anything.
