I suppose I was under the impression that we were lumping everyone with tattoos into some defined category of people. Obviously, if someone has gang signs tattooed on their face, you are going to assume they belong to a gang. Similar to the handle bars you mentioned. Those are explicit symbols of a group that those people can be lumped into. I got the feeling that some people were saying that tattoos in general can be used to assume things about people, not just specific tattoos symbolizing obvious ideologies.

I think the main issue is how seriously one takes themselves.
Tattoos in my opinion look good. In the way some people think blonde looks best or tan skin is preferred.
What the tattoo is can be put aside because from a distance, you cant tell what the tattoo is, its just a "look" to have colorful sleeves, or one leg done up, etc etc.
Sure this look is more life-long than a hair cut or dye but then I get back to my point how how seriously you take yourself.
Tattoo artists just keep filing their body with shit. The idea is to put something on you that wont become unattractive later down the line. Like an idea or theory. Not some subject like movie or video game. Example, I have a couple dia de los muertos tattoos. Sure, this is pretty over done now. For me, the idea of the holiday symbolizes cherishing our loved ones after they are gone as well as while they are here. It turns a sad memory of missing my father into loving what he was while I had him.
That idea will never grow old. Sure had I got my favorite band tattooed that might get old quick. But I see tattoos as a piece of art. No so much as expression. Im not expressing myself with my tattoos. But I love the pieces I have. As art I think they are gorgeous and as art I will never dislike them. I may get bored, then I can add more or add some flare to them.
In the end, your life isn't going to SUCK because you have a small tat a couple people will judge you for.. But if you dont like them then fuck them dont get one.
Also, I will say as a tattooed guy (not heavily and all easy to hide with a short sleeve shirt) I would prefer a girl without tattoos if I had the choice.
