I can tell none of you grew up in the deep South, squirrel is a treat.

But only a child hunts them with a shotgun (and takes 2 shots), 22 takes more skill but does less damage to the meat.

My Grandparents use to can Squirrel, when I was about eight or nine. I ate some, not knowing what it was. They were from the Mountains of far Southwest Virginia.

Then again...as weird as it sounds, I could imagine a squirrel tasting pretty good overall. It's diet is pretty much natural stuff...and it's always on the move, so it's in good shape...so, it's healthy.

yeah, it's pretty good stir fried with seasoning. texture is almost like snakemeat, except closer to a gamey pork like flavor...goodstuff. I'm pretty nasty, I'll eat just about anything that used to be alive...

I couldn't tell you. Too far back to remember, but it didn't taste bad enough to not eat it. But made sure what was on my plate every other time we eat there.
