XBOX360 - A PS Fanboy's Perspective
Screw yo thread preview... get in here and read
[So, as the title says, I'm a total PS fanboy. I paid no attention to the XBOX or the 360. I used to see those demo stations setup in Best Buy or Gamestop and walk right by. Saw Madden 06 on the 360, thought it looked a little better then the PS2, but knew they stripped it down, so I wasn't even tempted.
Then I saw some of this year's games coming out. A friend of mine's brother got it, then he got it... and after hearing about how much they loved FIFA and NCAA 07, I bit the bullit and picked one up. I must say that initially I was very impressed with some games. FIFA World Cup looks great, NCAA 07 looks and plays well also. Call of Duty 2 was pretty sick as well. The game that has me hooked right now is Prey. Sick game. I also tried some demos (Tennis, MotoGP, Test Drive Unlimited, Dead or Alive, and so on). Obviously not all of the games are great, but so far I've like all of the ones I've tried (except Table Tennis).
Right now I'm very excited about Madden 07, NHL 2007, and Test Drive Unlimited. Those games look awesome and truly next gen.
Graphically the 360 is obviously ahead of the PS2, but I'm anxious to see how it competes with the PS3. What I may do is keep the 360 until next spring, then sell it off and get a PS3. We'll see. One thing that has impressed me is the sound (and I'm only using the RCA cables, no optical audio hooked up yet). The sound is incredible and really puts you into the game. I'm hoping game designers take advantage of this, especially with the sports games. It can add a whole new dimension to the gaming that the last gen systems lacked.
As far as the controller, I like how companies like EA Sports kept the controls the same... so it was very easy for me to pickup NCAA and know which buttons did what. The only thing that throws me of is passing. When the screen shows the passing Icons and I have buttons like A or Y or RB, I need to look down at my controller to see where they are. After a few games I'm starting to get used to this, but I'm so used to the Circle, Square, Triangle, X that it will take a little longer to get used to. It makes it even tougher since I've never held any XBOX controller before getting the 360, but I'm almost used to it
The other thing I absolutely LOVE is the online. The 360 is like a computer that can be controlled with the remote. I love being able to go online to download demos... and while I have not played a game online yet, my friends have, and they say that it blows away the PS2 online. Now I understand why you have to pay for Live when the PS2 was free... b/c the Live network smokes PS2 online. This is huge, especially for a guy like me who runs an online Madden league (I can't tell you how many games were interupted b/c of resets or freezes... or how many people lost stats b/c they got booted at the end). This should make things much, much better.
I also love how the controller does everything. It's probably the epitomy of laziness, but I love turning the console on and off from the controller. Pretty neat. I'd say that the whole online and control panel thing is one of my favorite parts of the 360.
So all in all I must say that I like it a lot. When more of the games I want are released I'll get more into it, but for now NCAA 07 and Prey are keeping me busy (that is, when I actually have time to play it). I'm still excited about the PS3, so my biggest decision will be to sell the 360 and get the PS3, or just wait, and get the PS3 later on meaning I'll own both. Not sure yet, I need to give the PS3 some time to see how it performs at launch.
Anyway, that's it.. just figured you'd like to say what a PS fanboy had to say about the XBOX360

Dead rising looks good too Madden 2007 will kick ass and Saints Row is fun but 2 days to vegas may be better. Im not a fanboy at all I only got 360 since it came out before PS3 if PS3 came out 1st I would have gotten that.

Good review. If you are into shooters check out Battlefield 2, it blows COD away.
I'm also looking forward to Test Drive and Madden.
One thing I really like about the xbox is the media player extender thing. I've never had a good way to play music from my pc on my home stereo, other than setting up my laptop on my a/v rack. XBOX does a decent job of it. Makes me want a media center pc though.

I played Saints Row this morning for about 5 min before I had to go to work. The graphics looked 100x better than GTA. Thats all I got for right now. Ill write a little better review tonight...

If the 360 is on the same network as the Media Center PC, you just go to the settings page of the 360 dashboard and you can have it search for the PC. You can then stream music, photos, and video from the pc. The best part about this is that you can use that streaming music as the soundtrack for the games instead of the music it comes with.
Works better than trying to run optical and dvi cables through the house for me.
