its not mail in rebate, you have to send in the form of which movies you want and then they give you the movies in the mail.

Well you get 6 HD DVD's plus the player for $50. Thats less than $10 a DVD and you get a player. Well worth it to me. You can pick up HD DVD's cheap and keep them around. Sure you probably can't get any new movies for the player but its a cheap temporary solution instead of paying ~$400 for a blu ray player

 

I just picked one up at FYE (www.fye.com, look for store locations), and besides the whole 5 free dvds, it came with king kong and the m/s universal control... AND a $30 rebate. so, I get everything for a little over $20.

as for the reason why someone would pick this up... you can get most hd-movies for $10-15 now. You can save hundreds by buying all your favorites current and older movies in hd instead of blu-ray. Shoot, with the money u save, u can buy a blue-ray player. jmo

 

^^Yeah, but after you've watched all the HD-DVD movies that's out there now, what you gonna do with that player? In a year or 2?
That's what preventing me from getting one!

 

That list of movies you could choose for free was pretty weak.
