I'm sure rewritting X amount of code wouldn't take as long as writing X amount of code

Are you a programmer.

It takes just as long to rewrite code as to write it in the first place. (debugging and the ever present I fix this bug and then it gets to another part of the code that it wasn't getting to before and opens up 10 more bugs)

Also at last count I heard Vista is something close to 65 million lines of code.

i dont believe this article...rewriting 60% of the code base would have taken a whole long longer.
