'Big Daddy Diggler'
on a 256mb card you can fit a vhs/TV quality 120 min movie. On a 512, you can fit a dvd quality movie. Dont forget, the psp's screen is small so you dont need it to be at dvd quality to receive "DVD" quality.

I love my PSP though its a bit expensive to fully utilize. To me it a gameboy for the 21+ crowd.
Don't expect it to be #1 in any one category other than its intended purpose and thats to play games. No other portable can deliver visuals on par with the PSP at this point in time.
Video: Im extremely happy to see UMD prices pretty low, $10-$15 isn't too bad for some of the better movies. You dont need an extensive collectio but just a few that you enjoy watching repeatedly to view on a trip.
Video on the memory stick is a different matter. It can be difficult to convert WMA files. The quality isn't on par with the UMD's but isn't bad either. I currently have a few episodes of family guy on my memory stick.
Music: Music is fine. Im not an audiophile by any means, the quality is good enough for me with the crappy ear phones that came with the PSP. Not its not an ipod and doesn't have 20gigs worth of space but I dont need that much. I cut the crap I dont listen to out and just place songs I like on it.
Games: The selection isnt the best right now. Its still new and we're in the usual summer slump. I have Tiger wOODs, Lumines, and Ridge Racers which are all rated AAA.

There's a lot more you can do with the PSP. It all depends on what version Bios you have. I have a NES and SNES emulator on mine. It's pretty cool to play Zelda on the PSP

Im am retarded when it comes to things like this. Do you have to be connected to the computer to play these games? Or are they downloaded on the memory card? Sorry, can you tell me more info? Thanks

Yeehaw
I play mine all the time. MLB 2005 kicks ass. I played it in Costco for an hour yesterday while I got an oil change and a new battery. Today I'll play it while I wait for my tires to get put on. I play it while my girlfriend is watching her crappy tv shows. I'll play it in a box, I can play it with a fox....

Everything runs locally...no need to hook it up to a computer. You will of course have to transfer the files from the computer...but thats all. Right now if you run 1.5 you have to have 2 memory sticks. If you read the site...there is a new hack coming out soon to eliminate that.
To check out your firmware just go to your system info.

Oh man, i just got one....i couldn't help myself, the cool factor was just too much for me to resist. I got the value pack at toys r us, and i got hot shots golf and the USB connector. This thing is great. I also ordered a 1 GB stick so i can add movies, more music and hacks such as the NES emulator. I wish there was a way to browse the web without purchasing wipeout....hmmmm...oh well, i'm sure the'll come out with a hack that does this. what games do they have that allow you to play other people online and not just direct connect?

Might as well bring it back. They will exchange it no problem. For $250.00, you should want a perfect one.

i exchanged it and it has another dead pixel on an all black background, but this is just in the lower left corner and unnoticable...oh man, i cant wait to get my 1 gb memory card. This thing can do so much....like now i have a nes and a snes emulator on it

Did you get the emulators from the site that was posted on page 2 of this thread? I want to do it, but have no idea how. Let me know.
#137
yeah, i got them from taht website....it took me a little to figure it all out, but i got it. You download this program called KXploit which physically puts the homebrew (programs for your psp not made by sony, such as the emulators) onto your PSP. It does it in a special way that "tricks" the psp into playing it. Sony doesnt want you to be able to play non-sony stuff, so if you have firmware (like your OS) of 1.51 or higher, you're fucked. But as long as you didn't update the software on your PSP, you'll be all good.
so the steps are
1. download and install the newest version of KXploit
2. download the desired emulator and unzip it
3. run KXploit, create the name of the application, find the EBOOT.pbp file that came with the emulator, select the drive on your comp that represents the PSP, and click generate
4. some emulators require you to add a few other files. You can do this directly into the directory that does not have the "%". if i named the application NES i would put the files in E:/psp/game/nes
5. search google for ROMS, and put them in the directory mentioned in step 4
All the emulators so far are ports of their PC versions, and becuase they're not programmed for the PSP, some of them run kind of slowly. I found that the genesis emulator was kinda crappy, the NES emulator was fine, and the SNES emulator required some tewaking to run well. There are tutorials for all of this on the website (http://www.psp-hacks.com). have fun....
oh btw, there is also a way to change your background for the psp...sorta cool.

Get Metal Gear Acid. Great game. I like it because its different, takes alot of strategy to play. I also have Hot SHots, and Need for Speed Underground. Theres not too many games out right now, next on my list will be Grand Theft Auto when it comes out. Right now Im stuck on Metal Gear, cant put it down. I heard Untold Legends was good also. I have about 15 Gameboy SP games to trade in, so I'll probably pick up Untold Legends or Midnight Club.

just got psp as a bday gift and its a very cool toy. i have been holding out because i thought it was too expensive. but since i got it as a gift from my lil brother, it makes it all that much better. gonna go get hotshots golf which should keep me entertained for a while. i still think it's too exspensive but it's by far the coolest portable video game console.

Another interesting development is PSP FTPD, a simple FTP server for your PSP. Using WiFi you can send (legal) files around to all of your PSP-owning buddies without the need for carting cables around.

I was thinking of getting one but the price seem too high for me and I definitely want to use it for movies and music only, but the memory card is expensive too. I have a GBA and use it all the time to play movies, music, and games(of course) and I like how durable it is, i dunno about the psp tho.

Well there are two products that can do here they are:
GBA Movie Player
I have this one and its pretty good for its price and it plays movies, music, games, read text, view pictures, and play nes games. Its video quality is not the greatest and the music is find and the nes games are limit to a cetain KB's. But for what you pay($25) its still good.
Heres the other:
Play-Yan
This is one plays MP4 and MP3 well, but its expensive ($80), but it doesn't paly nes games, read text, or view pictures.
I would be getting the play-yan but i heard they are coming out with a US version, so Im waiting on that.

Yeah, but you have to upgrade the firmware. If you upgrade, you wont be able to play isos, home brew apps and other goodies.
