hmmm...maybe I should play some socom II next weekend to get ready for III while I am on break. If I am lucky maybe I'll buy socom III for christmas when I am done with classes.

i just busted out II a couple days and and started messing around. man i miss this game. i just watched a commercial for III and it looks soooo sick.

 

Yeah from what my brother has been telling me Socom III is a completely new game whereas Socom II was just an expansion of the original. The beta version has been out for a while and people have been posting screen shots and it looks awesome

 

Will it still have the old maps fish hook was so much fun.

 

No all new maps. And the map size will be based on the amount of players. If it's only 2 vs 2 the map is small. Or if it's full out 16 on 16 the map will be huge.

 

Another cool feature about the maps which wasn't previously available is that you can select which kind of game you want to play on each map. So say for example there was Desert Glory. You could make that a suppression, demolition, extraction, escort, etc, etc.

Wow this is leaps beyond Socom 2. The maps are huge. Almost too big. The number one issue right now is with 16 people on your team it's hard to get on the mic with all these kids on.

i tried 2 ebgames, both told me no go until tomorrow afternoon. :\

on that note, it's amazing how many of these style games are out or are coming out soon... EBGames entire "coming soon" wall was Army/Spec-Op style games.

 

You will need a credit card to verify you are of age to play. Without a credit card you can't be in a clan or have a friends list. No clue why.

Load times are fast. From logging in initially to going from round to round. In fact it's less than 10 seconds to start a new game.

~ You can't draw out a game by camping. If there's 10 seals left and just 1 terrorist when the time runs out the Seals will win. This is for supression maps, obviously on ones with hostages it's different
~ You now have a certain load which you can carry. The more weapons/heavier weapons you have the slower you run. You can unlock other characters that have different load ratings. Sniper rifles, heavy machine guns, and RPGs will slow you down right away.
~ Different levels of scopes can be applied to almost any gun. Same with silencers, M203's etc.
~ You can find people on your friends list, and select to join the room right from the same menu. No more searching for East 34 "l33t n3wb5 0nly"
~ Many different levels of ranks
~ Tons of vehicles with enough room to hold 4 people
~ You can swim
~ After you use your RPG you drop it so you can pick up new equipment
~ You can choose from multiple spawn locations

 

So, can you fly? What's with all the screenshots of Heli's? Do you ride them like in Blackhawk Down or fly them like Battlfield or are they just for decoration like Socom 2?

 

Havent' come across any choppers yet. They might only be a single player vehicle. There are boats though with multiple guns, etc. People drop much easier now too. Double tap on them with a weak sniper rifle like the SASR and you've got a kill.

 

Okay a few things I don't like:

It does take longer to skip from person to person while you are a "ghost" or while you're dead. Don't really know why but it just does.

Also, I played one game tonight where I couldn't switch my gun. No matter what I did I couldn't change my gun after I died. I guess there's still a bug or two in the game,

Overall it's much better than either of the SOCOMs it replaces.

The sound is a lot better and surprisingly the graphics are a little better too.

Fuck the IW-80 There's so many good guns you don't need that shit. The guns are much more even. I think you need to reach a certain rank before you can create a clan.

Another thing that is very different in the new version is the terrorist's uniforms. No longer do they stand out like a sore thumb with red or yellow hats, etc. Some of their uniforms are nearly identical to the SEALs. Also, the names of your teammates don't show up as quickly as they did before. It can be hard to tell if you are shooting friend or foe.
