Saints Row for XBOX 360

First I've heard of this... looks pretty sweet, like Grand Theft Auto with more depth.

Yeah, i the demo is out. If I were to judge by it. I wouldn't say it's deeper than gta. It actually feels a bit hollow.

Officials from the THQ have revealed that downloads of the Xbox 360 demo of Saints Row from Xbox Live Marketplace have reached a record 350,000 during the first week online, the most ever over such a time period.

The demo was also the seventh most played game online according to recent data from Microsoft, and is the part of a multi-million dollar marketing campaign unveiled by THQ. Starting with the demo and a pre-order DVD offer, the worldwide campaign is set to continue with TV, cinema, print and online advertising as well as being featured during the season of The Ultimate Fighter on the Spike TV channel in the U.S.

Anyone else download it yet? I like it, not quite up to GTA standards but is a fun game, and also online

i downloaded the demo. it is kind of shallow, you can smoke blunts and a bong and it makes everything all fuzzy but i dont think it does much. and if you get drunk i dont think it does much either, besides making your punches a lot stronger.

fighting is ok, you stagger too much when fighting too many people though. shooting is fun.

the driving sucks ass though. grand theft auto driving is by far the best when it comes to these games.

go to the top of the map in the demo where all the traffic comes really fast and jump in its way.... when you get hit its hella funny!

would i buy this game? probably not.... unless they make changes especially to the driving dynamics. should you download the demo? YES, it's free! and theres no limit to how much you can play.

Downloaded it. Probably wouldn't get it. And since I'll probably be getting rid of my 360 anyway, almost certainly won't get it

Driving is very loose. Manually adjusting the camera as you move around is a pain in the ass (I'm used to the camera being behind my character all the time and automatically, like in GTA). I tried getting into it... but the camera thing really frustrated me and I quit the demo haven't played it since.

Well the best part of the game from what I have read is the online play. I have always wanted to play GTA online, and this is as close as you can get for now.

I thought the demo was pretty good. Not perfect, but a pretty good GTA clone. I'll most likely pick it up next week

Did anyone get it yet? I had it in my hands at Fry's but I put it back. I really don't have time for another video game.

If you like Grand Theft Auto, this is the closest you will get for the next year.

Close, but not close enough. The game looks great, but plays ok. The controls absolutely suck. They should have mimicked the GTA control scheme. Haveing one button for left punch and one button for right punch is retarded, especially when you are fighting, you are mashing away and cant make any right, left combos connect. Driving sucks major balls. The cars feel weird. And they accelerate pretty much the same on dirt, sand, street, grass. GTA on PSP has better car control than this. I cant get over how easy it is to get killed in this game as well. The ai runs in circles around you, while you are trying to aim and run at the same time, getting you shot and killed. Give me back GTA auto aim anyday. All in all, i really dont feel like getting used to a different control scheme for this type of game. I guess the next best thing would be for me to wait for Vice City stories for the PSP. In the mean time, ill mess with this, but i am thinking abhout returning it.

I disagree. The GTA games were amazing except for the control scheme IMO.

Almost every reviewer agrees as well that the shooting and driving controls from the GTA series were messed up IMO. I hated the GTA auto-aim and the driving controls felt off. I feel this is the best area of Saints Row and every online review I have read (gamespot, gamepro, IGN, etc) agree as well. I guess it is a matter of taste, but I love the controls. It's no GTA but a damn good copy.

GTA IV is scheduled to be released November 2007 on both the 360 and PS3 at the same time

i played it a lot today. its fun and addicting. i never owned a ps2 or gta so ive never really played this type of game so i cant compare it to gta.

my friend who has ps2 and has all the gta's said its really similar and he's thinking about returning it.

i love it though. think its fun as hell.
its awesome how you can change your whole appearance, modify your cars, etc

Driving and shooting at the same time is way better in Saints row than in GTA. But my problem is really the way the cars handle and the fact that for so many years of playing GTA, i am so used to the control scheme that this games control scheme doesnt work for me. Like selecting weapons should be made easier, in this game if you run out of ammo, you have to hold one button with your right hand and take your left hand off the analog stick leaving you open for attack. I played the game more and like it a little more. But aside the in car shooting controls, GTA is a better experience in this genre. For me at least.

I meant to say, and move your weapons with the left analog stick instead of take your hand off.

Looks like they are already working on a patch for a couple issues:

http://developer.saintsrow.com/forum...ead.php?t=4375

It's cool that they are acknowledging and addressing this so quickly.

DOes the respect system in this game piss anyone else off? Oh, you just killed the leader of a rival gang, but to go cap a couple of fools, you have to earn respect by delivering hookers first! NOW GO!

Bullshit.

After plaing the game for a while, i actually love the changes they made to this genre. Although i still find myself getting mixed up with the GTA control scheme, Saints row has me hooked.
