PSP can now play ripped psone games
If you have a psp and firmware 2.71 or below, the time has come to break out the psp once agian....you can download a cracked firmware update that will allow you to have version 3.02 (the one that incorporates ps3 connectivity, expanded music player, etc) but play all your homebrew as if you had the old ass firmware. Even better, you can rip psone games from their discs and make them playable on the psp! no need to a) pay for a game you already own and b) wait for sony to add it to the list. oh yeah, an no need to own a ps3.
This update has got to make the psp the best portable system out there...i can play psone, nes, snes, and psp games (and homebrew) all on the same handheld. sweet.

its a PITA. you basically have to downgrade your psp from 2.71 >> 1.5 and then upgrade 1.5>>3.02 revision A >> 3.02 revision B
but its def worth it. the hardest part is trying to figure out what to download. i just did it to my psp and my bro's psp, so let me know if you have any q's

well im at 1.5 right now so I guess not so bad for me lol. I was asking about ripping the games though.. like, if it takes a 4 hours to rip on PS1 game or something, not sure Im interested. How is that process.
i just modded my psp... to 1.5.. haven't tried the ps1, nes, or snes on it yet. will soon. so far only got a torrent that has 35 psp games with a fastuploader. works perfect.
hey, you think you can hook us up with the download or link to the download for the firmware. that would be great! thanks, i'd like to try it out

I'll see if i can post some links when i get back hom (work restricts a lot of the websites). Did you mod your psp to 1.5, or did you use a firmware downgrader?
and srika, the actual ripping process takes 10 min, tops.

Upgrade from 3.02 OE-A to 3.02 OE-B. Don't use the verison of popstation that is bundled with this, as it is incomplete
http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/978
Popstation, which is the program which will convert your PSX ISOs into a file that the PSP will recognize. You have to use a command prompt to run this program, which is not very user friendly. Also, when you copy over your eboot.phb or whatever to your PSP, also be sure to copy over the keys.bin file. Copy them into psp/game/whatevergameyoujustripped. This is the full version of popstation, with "helper files". If you would like an actual interface to interact with, also use the next program. Here is the popstation link (torrent file)

Popstation interface can be found here. I haven't tried this yet, but I will shortly.

This is a lot of files, but once everything is all said and done, you will only need to use the last two on a recurring basis to create your psx game copies. Also keep in mind that you also need a program to rip your PS1 games into an ISO or bin/cue. You should be able to use nero for this. or alcohol 120.
Happy hacking.

some skating game I loaned to someone and wasnt returned damn what was it called
Jet Moto 1 and/or 2 - damn why didnt they do an updated version of this for PS2
Bushido Blade
the fighting game by Square.. had some f'ed up name I don't remember lol
edit: Tobal No. 1... (WTF?)
Wrestlemania (the original Akklaim version)
and of course, GT1 and/or 2.. hope memory card saves are transferrable
theres others but thats what I thought of for now

One major game comes to mind that I would rip first:
Resident Evil 2, greatest game ever IMO
Then I would put
MGS
GT 1 & 2
Parasite Eve 1 & 2
Tenchu
Viper, you should charge a fee to install this for us local PSP owners who have no idea how to do this. You could probably make some good side money doing this.
That said, after you do all that, can emulators be added AND will new PSP games still be able to be played? Or are you basically screwed if a game requires a new version of the PSP software update?

^^ hmmmm, not a bad idea....I wouldn't mind doing that, but before doing so I would be sure to caution that there is a chance this might brick your psp (there is always a chance of this happening with this type of stuff). That being said, I did it to my PSP and my bro's and it worked just fine.
As for your other question, I can play the emulators and all new psp games - the method I described above is essentially the same as having firmware version 3.02. However sony may release another firmware and require games in the future to have that firmware. This probably won't happen for some time, and in any event, the homebrew community will figure out a way to update the hacked 3.02 to whatever else. I know, for example, that you can already update your hacked firmware to 3.03, but I haven't bothered to do this since I don't have any games that require this.
But yeah, i'd be down for doing that. How much do you think is fair? I don't want to rip anyone off, but it does take some time to do. Or I guess the more important question is, what firmware do you currently have, becuase that will determine wheter this is even possible or not?

I'd pay like 50 bucks plus the shipping back and forth to get all the emulators and stuff put in. Shit, you got me thinking right now. Where in NYC are you? I may not even have to mail it to you. Is this something you would be seriously willing to do?
I believe I have version 3.01? Not sure. I just did the update like 3 weeks ago

I hate to break it to you, but I won't be able to do anything if you have firmware 3.01...I think the max you can have at this point is 2.8....the reason for this is that there needs to be a downgrader to get your psp back to 1.5, and I think 2.8 is the farthest they've gotten so far....but I will let you know if there comes a point when I can do it with your firmware, cause I wouldn't mind doing it for you.

I don't have a PSP, but if I were to buy one, is the best bet to look for a used one with an older firmware and not buy one off the shelf?

Exactly, although if you give the hacking/homebrew community more time, they may figure out how to downgrade even newer firmwares
your best bet is to buy a used oe with a known older firmware, or you can buy one and return it if its firmware is too new. I think 2.71 or 2.81 is the newest firmware that can be downgraded
well....i'm not exactly sure becuase it has never happened to me. But if you do some research on the web, it is known that certain motherbaords on the PSP cannot be downgraded, becuase when you try, you brick your psp....other than that, i'm not really sure what exactly causes bricking. But i say there's a chance because anytime you alter your software, there is always a chance that slight chance that something will go wrong.
One thing that may brick my psp, for example, is if i upgrade to a real sony firmware from my hacked firmware....i mean, it may work just fine, but i'm not sure. I'd probably do some research about it beforehand.
Anyways, my point is that if you do your reserch online and follow instructions, you'll be fine.
