I keep going across the bridge to where I believe the first boss is, but I keep chickening out and going back to practice more before I face him. I feel 100x more confident now that I found a whole set of better armor in the sewer and can dodge a lot better, so tonight I will go after the Cleric Beast. I have been smashing every box and barrel I see, that's how I came across the secret entrance to the sewer. I also love the notes and specters that you can view from other players. Most have been very helpful in the first few hours of playing. I will stick to my Saw Cleaver for now and acquire the Cane after I level up a bit.

Once you beat him, you'll be able to level up your character with all those echoes you've been collecting and losing. Armor isn't really a big deal in this game. Some help with certain afflictions but it's not a major upgrade TBH. But yeah if you git gud at dodging and even learn how to gun parry you'll do great.

But, not terrible on being cautious. I became quite the case after I got my @$$ handed to me many many many many times by Father G.
Post questions if you need! Both Doomie and I can guide you through your nightmares.

Played another 3 hours last night (I am paying for it this morning though). I finally earned 1 Insight, so I ran back to the lamp post as fast as I could because I had over 5000 Blood Echoes and I didnt want to lose them. Leveled up my character a little. Played another hour or so, came back with 4000+ Echoes, leveled up again. Ok, let's do this. Went to the bridge, took everyone out and faced the first boss. I have played Resident Evil, Silent Hill, etc and I have never been this nervous facing a boss. I took it slow, kept my distance, watched his movements, and attacked little by little. A few visceral attacks later, and he was almost dead. It's near 1am and I am sweating, just a few more hits. I had about 9 vials left so I used a few and ran in and kept swinging till he was down. Not bad, did it on my first try. I sat back on the couch (because I was standing most of the battle lol) and just breathed for 5 minutes. When I saw that new lamp pop up, I was so excited.
Played another half hour and honesty ran into Father G.'s area by mistake, I was not ready for him. I forgot all my buttons, but I gave him a good run. Got him down to about 50% then I stumbled and he beat the crap out of me. You Died. I sat there a few minutes deciding if I wanted to try again, I didn't. Tomorrow is another day. this game owns my life. And I freakin love it

Get him down to 40% HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA can't wait......shut up Yum!!!!!
Nice kill on CB. Well done that you're doing visceral attacks. I don't think I got those down till fighting Father G. Pay attention to how you use it. Especially depending on which weapon you use.

Had a very exciting night. Defeated Father G. on the 2nd try. He was tough, but I managed to finish him off as soon as he turned into the werewolf. Started the Cathedral Ward, very cool world, the difference in enemies made me feel like I was just starting the game over again. Played for a while not really paying lots of attention, then I noticed I had over 10,000 echoes, so I high-tailed it to a lamp asap. Noticed I had a shit load of items that you use to give you free echoes (had no clue). So by the time I used them all I was well over 20,000. I took the next half hour or so to really upgrade my weapon and character. My Saw is at level 3 right now with all different gems going on. I kept the Red Brooch from the little girl for myself and made a gem out of it for my Saw, then I sent her on her way to the Cathedral for shelter (hope she makes it there). Found a couple more different outfits and bought a new gun. All in all a good amount done last night.
I went back to the Cathedral ward, explored the hell out of it then realized I needed something to open the gate and it cost 10,000 echoes, oops. Farmed for about a half hour and went back to pick it up so I could move forward.
Somehow, made my way to Old Yarnham, got a little ways in until that guys starts shooting at you from the rooftops. I figured I'd go back and finish up the Cathedral first, then come back here later. Went back to Central Yarnham and finished some loose ends (got the flame thrower, found the Crow Hunter, which I totally missed before, found the Spear weapon, stocked up on bullets and other goodies). The difference from now to how I was the first time I played is amazing. I can fight multiple enemies and know how to get out alive. I am getting really good with visceral attacks, which I found so tricky in the beginning. I have Central Yarnham totally memorized, I know where everything is and what path leads where, that's pretty cool.
Will get some more time in this weekend and shoot an update. I am having a lot of fun with this game and I am glad there is so much more to go

Awesome job on Father G! It sounds like you got the mechanics of the game much quicker than Yum and myself by defeating Father G so easily. That wolf mode fucked me up many times. The red brooch has a couple of uses as it can be turned into a rune as well depending on what you do with it. That's ok, you can always check out NG+ for that
I saved my coldbloods for a rainy day like if I was short after a difficult hunt and didn't want to accidentally die as you know is very easy to do. It's funny how Central Yharnam was so damn hard and after a while it's a breeze. Kudos to you for not attacking the Crow Hunter like I did. She has a nice but difficult back story.

Still on the hunt. Haven't had much time to play lately. Spent a couple of hours running around farming echoes. I want to build up my character as much as possible before I keep moving forward. Running thru Central Yharnam is a breeze now, I am pretty much one-shot killing every enemy in this area. Still upgrading my Saw Cleaver, but the blood shards needed are becoming more scarce, I guess I will need to keep moving on.
I stumbled upon the Forbidden Woods, but didn't explore it yet. I made it all the way to the top of the Cathedral to what looks like the next boss fight, but I didn't go for it yet. Looking thru the guide book, I will most likely follow the path it sets so I don't miss anything. My 8-year-old is hooked on watching me play and has forbid me to play without him there lol. He told me to never get rid of it so he can play it when he's older. Still having a blast and haven't touched another game since I loaded this up

If you're following the book, the place to farm is Hemwick (near Grand Cathedral). Try to run through it and open the path for easy access to the boss. But if you're ready go through Old Yharnam. That boss was my kryptonite.

Congrats on beating Father G in such short order!
I lost count how many attempts it took me.

And remember, a great place to also farm is Cainhurst! Well-worth it!

Pretty much in the same spot I left off. September and October kill me. Kids are back in school, homework and projects are already being given out, not much play time to be had. I have some vacation coming up in a few weeks, I'll make up some time. nice work on the other Souls games. What did you think of them compared to Bloodborne?

Well keep in mind BB is the 4th game of the series so they've cleaned up a lot of details plus next gen power/graphics/etc certainly helps. BB is the most different because of the theme (gothic vs middle ages). It seems BB is a more streamlined game vs the others in the sense of stats (weight, poise, tendency, etc). Weight is HUGE because if you're wearing a heavy armor you can't even roll/run. Demon's basically has the Nexus a la the Hunter's Dream but rather than the worlds interlinking each of the 5 worlds holds multiple levels but you can't go from 1-1 to 2-1 without exiting the world. Dark Souls seems so far to be a big improvement on Demon's in sense of controls and more and more resembles BB. Demon's is a little tough to get into and is VERY difficult especially since you're learning how to parry with your shield rather than a gun (no guns in DS games) and block etc. Dark Souls has me hooked and more excited to play.

Bloodborne seems to reward aggressiveness...so, it's more attack-based. The other games are more the reverse, where it seems to be more defense-oriented?

Depends on your style/build and the enemy. I do remember a lot of the bad guys in BB I bum rushed like the dudes with the sacks but I was careful with the big dudes in Central Yharnam unless I could backstab.

Like BB, the DLC for Dark Souls 1 was hard as shit but so good. Thanks to BB, I beat it pretty easily because of the dodging I had to learn for BB's bosses. I wish they remastered it for PS4 for you guys.

Too much to play...so little time...I am very very behind on my gaming.

BTW this isn't entirely true. A lot of the bosses are too strong and hard to dodge consistently that you need to take them out aggressively rather than wait for the safe hit. Shields for a lot of bosses are useless because they're too strong or they have an elemental buff that'll still hurt you.

LOL, yeah, I never did get around to the DLC. I just finished the main story and that was it. I still haven't gone anywhere far in the latest Batman Arkham game. So, you can imagine I'm very behind on my gaming. I still need to also pick up Uncharted 4.

Might as well on UC4. Probably this Xmas it will be down to $20. I still want to do DS2 and 3 and then MGS:PP. Even my daughter is asking me about it. Trust me though, the DLC has some of the baddest bosses. I don't think anyone in the main game is harder except Father G when you're a virgin. Especially my AV. That fucker I got lucky to beat him. I think I posted the YouTube vid here. Literally had like 10hp or something left after a massive hit
