Vita name = lame

Wii U name = lame

Xbox 360 name = lame

Most game console names if you think about it are pretty lame.

If my kids break that controller I'm going to be pissed. I bet it's hella expensive to replace. If it weighs as much as a PSP it could be a neat.

the demo video is pretty cool.

The shot of the controller on the floor displaying a golf ball on a tee used in tandem with the wiimote...nice.

yeah when i saw that the first thing i thought of was call of duty.

each players controler could show their on view and the tv could just show the score and kill cam no screen watching

I REALLY hope they incorporate something that will make wii games look better when played on the u like how a bluray player can make reg dvd look better.

i am sure they will look at least a little better as gamecube games look noticeably better on wii but that may be due to my wii using component cables and gamecube haveing just composit....

Well, in some ways, the Sega Dreamcast kinda came out with an LCD controller already.

The hardware won't matter as long as they keep making "Sally Shortcakes Cooking Game." I was actually shocked when I could get Black Ops for Wii. Of course with Blockbuster going deep six, there are no games for the Playstation 2.

So most of the time it's "Sally Shortcakes" or nothing.

black ops for the wii was a joke i wasted my money on that garbage. no local multiplayer is the biggest reason i got rid of it. goldeneye on the other had is great single and local multiplayer i havent tried the online though they better make mw3 for wii u

im trying to confirm but i think BIOSHOCK will be comming to wii u and i think square/enix is planning something FF related for the u i hope it wont be one of thier crytal chronical craps and make a traditional style FF games

i think 3rd parties will port their best sellers mostly in the begining as opposed to makes new titles to see how they will sell on the console.

Well, if Ninja Gaiden 3 is making it to the Wii U, that's gotta say something about the processing power of this machine. I'm excited...

Although, can I honestly justify yet another gaming console to my armada: PS3, PS2, Xbox, Wii, SNES, Dreamcast, N64 and NES...

i just hope the people who buy the system buys games like this there where several "adult" games i bought not cuz i was interested in them but because i wanted to help support such titles on the wii (and because chokeing the shit out of a random person walking down the street with motion controls is AWESOME)

i am more hyped about the contol and all the posibilites it holds. a really like what they did with the zelda tech demo and had the health/items/ect on the controler and have a clean "world" to see on the tv screen will help you to immerse in the game even more

yeah i heard that too but hadnt confirmed. because this is a whole new chipset. the wii was ATI and that was an upgraded verison of the ATI that was used in the cube which is why it was so easy to make wii bc with it which mease now i will have to get a classic controler.

i wish they had a VC trade in program. where you can take you old cartridge games and get the VC version for free since you already own the game

So the disc is indeed a special type of blu-ray it is proprietary so no burning games with a blu-ray burner. the capacity is 25gb (the same as a single layer bd) does NOT support movie playback as should be expected from a nintendo console. but as the wii can be modded to play dvds perhaps the the U can be modded to play blu-ray for those who refuse to just buy a bluray player

Post Based on Last Generation Radeons

From here: http://www.digitaltrends.com/gaming/...-directx-10-1/

For all the promise of the Wii U and its unique features, Nintendo‘s E3 press conference reveal was more confusing than anything else. Introduced by way of the WiiPad tablet controller thingy, the words “new console” never actually came up until late in the presentation, when Electronic Arts boss John Riccitiello took to the stage to talk about third-party support. The Wii U is indeed a new console, and a fairly powerful one if reports are accurate.

The full set of specs have yet to be released, but a few details have slipped out. IBM confirmed in a press release last week that the console will be powered by a multi-core processor built on the same technology that powered the Jeopardy-winning artificial intelligence Watson. Now, Engadget has learned that the console’s visuals will be powered by a custom Radeon GPU.

The chip is apparently built on Radeon’s last-gen technology, seen in the company’s Radeon 4xxx line of video adapters. While those cards have since been updated in the 5xxx line, note that this is still more powerful than the visual processing power of either the Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 consoles. The Wii U chip will be capable of delivering DirectX 10.1-level eye candy.

This should be good for Nintendo through 2012 and probably 2013 as well, but sooner or later Microsoft and Sony are going to fire back with new console offerings. Sony may have a 10-year plan for the PS3, but that doesn’t mean something won’t come along to kick the console down to PS2-level pricing. As for Microsoft, a new console announcement is almost a foregone conclusion for sometime next year. The Xbox 360 is still a powerful device (just look at what it does with Skyrim) and the Xbox Live community is, without a doubt, the most active online gaming community out there, but the aging console, first released in 2005, isn’t going to be able to keep pace for too much longer.

The last thing Nintendo needs is to find itself in another situation where its own product lags behind the competition. The Wii was immediately popular with a much wider audience than most game publishers and console makers were used to at the time, but the years that followed have shown that the casual games aren’t enough on their own to sustain a home gaming platform. This is probably due at least in part to the rise in popularity of mobile devices as gaming destinations; why clear a space in front of your TV for Wii Play when you can just pull out your tablet and fling some Angry Birds?

With the Wii U announcement, Nintendo has officially launched the eighth console generation. Microsoft kicked off the seventh back in 2005, and is arguably the strongest player on the market right now. Will Nintendo be able to follow the lead and repeat that success? Only time will tell.

the lack of acutal specs and next year release date makes me wonder if they are not still tweeking on the actuall console. but on the other hand nintendo has always been super hush hush from "katana" to "dolphin" to "revolution" to "cafe"

and i guess if you come out and give all the info there is and then say wait a year before you can get one is just not good marketing. gotta build up the suspence

Wii U will not play DVDs or Blu-ray, Iwata says
BY ZACH HONIG
POSTEDJUN 15TH 2011 08:20AM

Planning to replace that aging Blu-ray player with a Wii U? Not so fast. Nintendo president Satoru Iwata says the gaming console won't play DVD or Blu-ray discs, due to patent licensing fees.
Wii U does not have DVD or Blu-ray playback capabilities. The reason for that is that we feel that enough people already have devices that are capable of playing DVDs and Blu-ray, such that it didn't warrant the cost involved to build that functionality into the Wii U console because of the patents related to those technologies.
So there you have it. Iwata doesn't want to hand over a bag of cash for baby Blu's "bag of hurt." By the time the Wii U hits store shelves in 2012, we may be buying Blu-ray players just for their Netflix capabilities, so here's to hoping the console at least carries over that functionality from its predecessor.

just have a ntcs/pal switch for the video output and allow for 115-220v input
