i need to buy a new desktop and i would prefer to spend a little bit. I don't need it for gaming, just for basic stuff like word processor, internet, movies, music.

However I still want to get something relatively new in terms of processor, I have used AMD in the past and have had good experiences with it. I was just wondering which amd processor is comparable to the intel core 2 duo. Would it be the athlon II?

I think it'd be either an Athlon II X2 or a Phenom II X2 ... but it seems like the Phenom is maybe the lower-performing of the two..? Not sure.

IMO if you had a good experience with an AMD, then stick with it. Especially considering it's not going to be used for gaming. AMD processors aren't really the turds everyone claims them to be...

 

I think they are. I have never had any good luck with them. I prefer Intel.

 

I've used both over many years.

At the moment Intel is ahead of AMD.
