promo video... shows the analog stick piece.. kind of an interesting contraption there..... kind of awkward looking..... but anyway. I think the one-controller mode would make for some pretty lazy gaming - and that is a good thing sometimes

http://media.cube.ign.com/articles/6...34/vids_1.html

Also they didn't show it in the vid but its cool how you can hold the controller horizontally and its setup like O.G. Nintendo..... with the A and B buttons.

looks funky.

I hope it feels as good as the GC controller. Which IMHO is one of the best controllers to date.

I hope it works for them. But in all honesty, by them swaying so far from the "norm", i can see a lot of game makers not porting titles to this system because Nintendo doesnt want to be like the others. The SNES was for its time one of the best. That and the Genesis were so similar, yet so different. They were the top systems to own. Then Sega made the saturn which was a cult hit and is still getting new games in japan. Nintendo on the other hand dropped the N64 which was cartridge based and hard to port games for. If it were cd rom based the N64 would have destroyed the PSX. Then the gamecube came out. And while its controller was a little different, the system had power and finally switched to a disk format. But, instead of using regular dvd's, it used mini disks that made it hard for developers to port full games on. God knows i love Nintendo. But they are like your buddy from your neighborhood. you know, the kid you hang out with when no one is around. But when your other friends are over you dont play with him because he rather play risk then manhunt.

I agree with you, seems they are trying to recapture the huge success theyve had in the past or something... I didn't know sega still makes saturn games in japan, thats crazy!

I thought Burning Rangers was the last Saturn game ever made.

edit: nevermind it was Shining Force III
Shining Force III - released 7/31/98
Burning Rangers - released 3/15/98

There are some independant developers making games for the system and they are still being sold in stores. I have a friend who imports games and sells them in his store. He calls me whenever cool shit comes in, and he had 2 new Saturn and a few new dreamcast games that were dated 2004 on the box. I checked because i couldnt believe that they were still making games for both systems.

Very innovative! For some games it will be fantastic, but for other games it will hinder the gaming experience.

I wonder how long it will take before some kid gets mad at his friend and chokes him with the controller! Or better yet it, I wonder how long it will take before someone uses them as nunchucks!

Nintendo Revolution Technical Details

The Revolution will be released Fall 2006, but the technical specs are FAR underwhelming. I guess I'll avoid it:

We cannot stress this enough: Revolution is not being positioned as a competitor to either Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3. Nintendo has instead chosen to design a console that will be very affordable for consumers. For that very reason, say developers in the know, the Big N has opted out of filling the system with a massive supply of expensive RAM.
Developers have clarified the makeup based on officially released Nintendo documentation. Revolution will build on GameCube's configuration of 24MBs 1T-SRAM and 16MBs D-RAM (40MBs) by adding an addition 64MBs of 1T-SRAM. The result is a supply of memory in Revolution that totals 104MBs.
Exact clock rates were not disclosed, but one development source we spoke to had this to say of the Revolution CPU and GPU: "Basically, take a GameCube, double the clock rate of the CPU and GPU and you're done."

We presented that description to another informed studio, which clarified that the clock rates may even fall short of doubling those on GameCube.
Every developer was in agreement that Revolution should launch with a price tag of $149 or lower. Some speculated that based on the tech, a $99 price point would not be out of the question.
Ugh.. Only at most 2x more powerful than the GC? Even though the controller is cool, I definitely think I will pass

I'm just disappointed that something coming out in late 2006 has basically similar performance to the original Xbox.

The 360 and PS3 in most of the key performance areas range from at minimum 5x (RAM capacity) to 25x (CPU FLOPS) more powerful

Nintendo decided not to get into a horsepower war with MS and Sony that they won't be able to win.

Price it 1/2 to 1/3 of the competition and offer decent performance and some exclusive games and you have a fairly profitable formula.

Nintendo looks like its going to go the old way of sega..... if this new route dosn't pan out for them, they should seriously think about sticking with handheld consoles and making games for other consoles...

I'm not worried about the graphical power. I usually don't have $400 to spend on a goddamn system, so I can't wait for this.

I've personally gotten pretty bored of most games coming out recently, so I'm looking forward to all the new possibilities that this system will present. I don't have an HDTV, and I've seen that the advancements on the 360 are negligable if you don't have an HDTV.

I don't understand why you guys are all saying "I'll pass" right off the bat when the system doesn't have all the bells and whistles of the new systems. The amount of stuff this system will be capable of doing for the price will be amazing.

I just think Nintendo dropped the ball a while back when they came out with the Game Cube as a descendant to the Nintendo 64. Nintendo has one of the most well known names in the industry so it really makes no sense to me why they were not more competitive when they came out with the Game Cube. Their name alone would peak my interest on any true next generation system they put out...but when their product is uncompetitive, who cares.

seems to me like this may be nintendo's last stand on gaming systems. Maybe they'll just stay in the game production market and not mess with systems anymore.... Thier present plan seems like a sink or swim idea.

Right, 'for the price'. Most of the people on here aren't 10-14 and can afford to pay a little more for a better system. Nintendo is going to have to be extremely creative with their games if they expect anyone with a ps3/360, or even an xbox, to buy this thing.

I think its going to do well, just like it always has. Parents of young children always flock to Nintendo because of the games. Nintendo will most likely never be able to compete with Sony or MS just because of the game libraries and support from 3rd parties. I'm sure it will do fine. Considering they are not spending alot of money in development, they should do very well with it. I said goodbye to Nintendo after SNES. They will always be around, maybe in the background, but they will always be there.

I'm sure it will do fairly well and there is a place for a system like this in the market, but it doesn't mean that I'm still not disappointed. I wasn't expecting a system with performance on par with the 360/PS3 but this is just unacceptable IMO.

For a system to launch in late 2006 with graphics probably little better than an Xbox1 is a shame. I was hoping for a truly immersive Zelda or Mario experience.

I may still pick one up if it launches for $99, but it depends on the backwards compatibility features and the pricing on games.

I would like to see an 8 bit Nintendo "Flash Back" like the Atari.

A NES with 30-40 of there best games for $30-$40 would be awesome.

have you played resident evil 4 on cube? honestly the graphics in that game are far superior to 90% of the xbox1 games I have played. Simply being twice as powerful to something that can create that is damn good enough for me. Think about it, if all you have to do is drop even $150 to get the system, then get it, that's nearly 1/3 the prie of a 360 which I sure as hell won't get till it drops in price.

I'm a poor college student, so I don't have $400 to spend on a system which I will only get all the benefits of if I spend another $1000+ on an HDTV + $60 per game? That's about 4 months of rent and bills for me, not including car insurance .

If I had the money, then sure I'd buy it, but at least half the people who enjoy playing video games don't.

I'm 100% with nintendo that graphics have gotten to be a moot point with me. Sure it may look good, but it's still the gameplay that matters most to me. I really sincerely hope they can pull off the use of the revolution controller as more than just a gimmick, or alternate control scheme in games. If they can't, they're fucked, but I hate how you all are straight up saying "I'm not getting it because the graphics aren't on par to my standard" when there haven't even been any videos OR pictures of any games on the revolution.

The guy who did mine uses a member only MERC for his info. My other buddy just types any questions he has into Google and gets his questions answered that way.

I see Microsoft buying Nintendo after the Revolution has been out for a while. If nothing else, they get all the licensing to apply games towards the 360 and get a leg up on Sony.

Well, that's what I would do
