Looking for a nice set of PC speakers
Looking for a nice set of PC speakers
My budget is $150 and I want some sweet sounding PC speakers. Doesn't need to be for PC, but it needs a 3.5mm jack. 2 satellites and a sub is my preference. I prefer clean, crisp highs and nice pounding bass also, and the wired remote for controlling bass/volume is nice too. My $20 Altec Lansings aren't holding up too well, I crank it up to 90% max volume regularly and now theres a lot of static when I crank it up and noise when its playing at higher volume. It needs to be LOUD with or w/o bass, and it has to be able to handle higher volumes. I'll be using it as the speakers to my alarm clock, mostly.
Been looking at the Logitech Z4 - I really like the way the system looks and the setup, but reviews haven't been too great.
Or maybe these? http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Z-230...7121275&sr=8-1
And:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...d_i=B0002SQ2P2
Pics help also, wouldn't want an ugly set of speakers. No brand preference, really, as long as the speakers themselves are reliable... Logitech just popped up several times. Thanks guys.

I'd go with these.... http://www.amazon.com/Klipsch-ProMed...7123191&sr=1-1
I've gone through a few sets of logitechs, never was all that impressed.
Or on the cheaper end, I recommend Creative. My $40 Creative 2.1 set sounds better than my $200 Logitechs did.

these are the ones i have

I love them but before that i only had cheap stereo pc speakers. these sound great even with my average sound card so if you couple these with a soundblaster or something else high end i bet the results would be even greater. and if you like bass it has plenty I almost had to dynamat my desk but i just moved the sub a little. the only draw back imho is that the rear speakers are wired and arnt that long. i paid about 70 for mine when i got it about a year ago so they should be well in your budget.

They sound great. You can get them new for around $50.

with Beetroot, I have those same 2.1's. And, they are excellent. Had them since '02, the only thing is they are prone to getting dust in the control pod and this causes massive crackling when adjusting volume - known issue. Mine got so bad that I couldn't use em anymore. But, I was able to buy a new control pod from Klipsch's website for like $30 or something and that took care of the issue. Small price to pay to get these babies back in service. Beautiful sound.

I bought these Creative I-trigue 3400 at CompUSA almost 2 years ago, they sound awesome for a 2.1 system. Whenever somebody new is in my room at school and we're listening to music, they are always very surprised at these speakers and how good they are.
The set of Klipschs look like they're a solid set of speakers. A friend of mine has the I-Trigue 3400s and they sound good too. Call me shallow but I've seen and heard the Creatures, nice set indeed, but it looks strange.
Wish I could try these things out in person, I doubt any stores have them on the floor anymore. Where would you guys buy these speakers from online?
Thanks for all the suggestions... 3 votes for the Klipsch, 2 for Creative, 2 for Logitech, 1 for JBLs, and 1 against Logitech. I'm not really looking for a 5.1 set but I'll consider the Dell too.
I'll update you guys when I get my set.

^^ well if you say you'd spend 150, you could get the I trigue 3400 speakers at amazon for $55. http://www.amazon.com/Creative-Labs-.../dp/B0002SQ2MA
The way I see it is, if you get a 5.1 system for around a 100 the quality of each speaker isn't going to be as great compared to a really nice 2.1 system for around the same price.

I got the promedia. Constant trouble, but they rock the whole house down and the sub is good.
I would really buy 5.1 right now.
Actually gonna get some decent cans. Heard $125 phones are better than $2,000 system, but phone addicts hit the $2,000 anyway...

Logitech Z-5500, decodes digital, multiple inputs, sounds great, just shy of a home theater system
edit: apparently it costs more than I thought and is prob out of your price range

I'm sure there's probably a COMPUSA closing near you so check them out. I was at one today and saw some good deals on big screens, printers and speakers but I was just snooping around looking for junk to buy.

The Z-5500 is what I have on my computer. Well worth blowing the extra budget on IMO.
In my basement workshop I have Z-5300e set that doesn't sound nearly as nice as the Z-5500, but for half the price it's probably the best you're going to find ($135 at NewEgg).
My kids computer has the Z-2300e 2.1 set and that one sounds really good for the money (I paid $80 for it).
