Just got a Enthusia

I just got a Konami's Enthusia. My first impression is.....not so good. IMHO, GT4 is better in gameplay, physics, graphics and musics....probably better in the all of the field. I didnt like the fact that I could only use the analog stick to control the car, and almost all of the cars drifted like crazy. I also didnt like the fact that you have to earn cars by winning the race...instead of buying the car like GT4. I'm guessing they didnt want to make a racing game that is very simliar to GT4. But still, earning cars??? Instead of earning money and buying the car of your dream?? Not for me. I also believe that game play is quite arcadish. Graphics were not so good as I expected...GT4's Ring was alot better compared with the Ring from Enthusia. Overall, out of 5, I'd probably give 2~2.5. I bet Konami tried very hard making this game to compete with GT series....but sadly, it didnt come close to GT4's standard. Now I know how it is hard for the game company to make a racing sim that is near-perfect like Gran Turismo.

I'm gonna give it another try tomorrow to see if it plays better...if not, its going to be in the hand of a gameshop clerk by early next week .

Probably yes. But you know....I tried to be fair in writing my review . I think Konami did a fantastic job making this game a realistic simulation game....but they couldnt make a game that could compete with GT4. I'll see if I can get anything else out of that game!

No problems here, I've been a fan of the GT series since it was in the early conceptual stages, back in '96 or so.

I must say I'm surprised to hear your review, after seeing the videos, I was kinda thinking Enthusia would be a contender. But alas videos can only say so much about the actual game experience... the actual control and feel of the game, can only be learned by first-hand experience...

So.... the first real possible challenger to GT4 goes down, in a hard way...

who's next?

I wonder what the development time and research time went into each game

Finally getting used to the game. After playing for awhile...I'm giving this game an extra point....making it about 3~3.5. The reason being the cars that are included in the game. I really loved how they placed some high-end luxury cars such as S600L, Audi A8 4.2, Toyota Celsior(LS430), Nissan Cima 450XV(Q45) and etc. Other cars including Bugatti/Dauer EB110(?), Alfa Romeo 156 GTA, Volvo V70R/S60R, Merc C32/G500L, VW Toureg, Chevy Astro, Range Rover, Seville STS, and etc. I really loved driving S600L through the desert/dune course....very fun. I also liked how Konami included skid marks and the rain and sand effects are probably better(I think) than GT4. Exhaust note are not bad either. The only problem with this game IMO is the courses. Most of them look like a improved version of the NFS courses(bit cartoonish). IMO, I think this game is somewhere between GT4 and NFS. Not so real as GT4 but not so arcade as NFS series.

So, if you want to have fun with decent realism, go for this game. If you want total racing sim, GT4.

BTW, I turned on the Stability Program and Traction Control and voila! excessive drifting stopped. So for the first timers, I recommend turning on the TCS and ESC.

OK, I spent some time(about 3 hours)into Enthusia. This is my mini-review:

-Graphic: It blows. No 16:9 support makes all cars in the game looked FAT. Lack of progressive scan support doesn't help either.
-Sound: Good on some engine sounds, but overall it is nowhere as good as GT4.(Plus no Dolby Pro Logic II support as well.)
-Handling: This is what this game all about, its better than GT4 for sure. They actually got FF drivetrain RIGHT. I started the game with the Honda Fit, and its fun to drive. HOWEVER, some of the FR cars are way too easy to drift. I can hardly call it "realistic" as some GT-haters said...(Not on this forum.)
-Tracks: the N-Ring blows. Some of the tracks are quite interesting. Overall there are some NFS, Ridge Racer feels in this game.(Track wise.)
-The opening FMV sucks.

Thats about it. GT4 is still lightyears ahead.

Gotta add one more thing before I go to sleep...

The game give you almost no force feedback, Dual Shock 2 or the GT Force I am using. Very disappointing.

Actually guys, RDML is completely wrong about some aspects of the game.

Enthusia's racing experience, as far as car dynamics, breaking, cornering, sliding, wiping out are WAY better than GT4...drifting AND rally atleast 5x better...

the fact that he didnt lke the analog stick only thing messed up his view of the game. And the fact that he DOES NOT know how to mess around with suspension as well, if you know enough about suspension you wont be sliding like you say you are...newb. set it like a real life suspension would be

BUT, i find the menu, car gaining, ENTHU POINT crap very irritating...but gt4 makes up for it with the training . In all they're pretty equal in graphics, it'll never beat xbox GT4, but their "driver skills, racing first" aspect is pretty amazing.

GT4 has a better storyline + Enthusia has NO CAR MODDING...no porting, no turbo, no exhauts, intakes, etc...i've only been playing 4hours or so...

GT4 vs Enthusia...i couln't decide, i like enthusia better 'cause i'm into the rally/drifting and racing thing.

I'd say the same thing.... !!! He doesnt know crap about GT4 or Enthusia....better yet, hes new to PS2 and racing sim. I guess. I maybe new to suspension, but you are newb to racing simimulation. And from my own experience driving cars....my car didnt slide like that game when I drove!! Good thing it didnt...b/c I'd be in ditch by now if it did. From what I have played and heard, there are NO...I repeat, NO STORYLINE in GT4.

typical american ignorant and stupid remark...my review, like it or not...how would i know nothing about them if i've played them....a lot...and why the hell are you comparing your sucky driving to the game's? you saying a gt is realistic? and from what you've heard (never played then) you've heard wrong...there IS a storyline = the choosing a racing theme and the couple of races in them where as enthusia has randomly generated races

forget this, have the thread...i hope you gain much from it

You first insult me by calling me a newb...then calls me an American...nudge nudge...and then insult me again by calling my driving..."SUCKY". Have you ever seen me driving??? Have you? Better yet, have you ever SEEN me?? You don't even know if I'm American or not but yet calls my driving "sucky" like you've seen me driving around before!! WTF is wrong with you?

1. I am not American...I'm Japanese
2. I'm not ignorant nor stupid
3. I'm not a "sucky" driver
4. I've played both the GT4 and Enthusia
5. I will never insult anyone unless insulted by
6. GT4 is a SIMULATION game. IT DOESN'T have storyline...storyline is what you see in games like Ace Combat Series or GTA series. Story needs a character, plot, setting, conflict, climax, resolution, and conclusion. Does GT4 have any climax?? Or conclusion?? or conflict?? or a plot?? Whether it is middle-school or high school, you learned and I learned that to make a story, all of the above components are required or it cant be called a story. GT4 may have character(a player) and setting(courses)...but it doesnt have ALL of the components. So it doesnt have a storyline.
7. Last but not least, I wrote my review VERY fairly. If it was a game that surpasses GT4, then I would have written like that. Just like I wont comment on Xbox's PGR because I wont be fair if I wrote my review w/o playing the game.

BTW, when you write in any thread, try to get your facts straight. AND dont insult me again.

Sorry to bring this thread back up again. I just want to give my .

My friend bought this game (Enthusia) because his brother in Philippines wants it. But he won't be shipping it to his brother till later in the month, so he played it. Then he let me try it out without telling me how he feels about the game. So yesterday, I spent almost the entire afternoon just playing Enthusia. Here is my review.

Graphics: Not too bad, I also like the skid marks.
Sound: I don't care much about the music since I turn all BGM off anyway in all racing games. The sound effects are pretty nice though. I had a Lexus GS and I chose the semi-automatic tranny. When it shifted, it really sounded like auto tranny. I also like the brake squeal. Pretty cool.
Cars: I haven't unlocked many cars, but there are some pretty cool cars. Some are quite interesting....like the luxury sedans.
Handling: This is where the big difference is between GT4 and Enthusia. Enthusia sucks big time in this dept. Pretty much any RWD cars would drift like hell. The FWD cars would plow so much that it's unbelievable. I don't think the driving is simulated at all. GT4 is (no doubt) way better in this dept.
Control: Since I don't have any steering wheel, I just use the controller. I set all the buttons just like when I play GT4. Left joystick for steering, right joystick for accel/brake, R2 for upshift, and L2 for downshift. The accel setting was so sensitive. I had the joystick halfway up, and the throttle bar on the screen showed I was WOT. It was very difficult to control the throttle. GT4 is still much better in the controls.
Game play: The ranking system was interesting, but I rather earn money to buy cars. There is no modding, and I don't quite like the adjustments in Enthusia. GT4 is still the best.
Overall: Since I'm more toward the handling physics than anything else, I would have to say Enthusia sucks. I'd rather play GT4. In fact, I don't get bored playing GT4. I got bored after about 3 hours of playing Enthusia. Good thing I didn't buy this game.

Is it possible that Enthusia's handling is even more realistic than Gt4? If you take a 90 degree turn at 60mph in a fwd car, you ARE going to plow like crazy.

You guys have to use the wheel to feel it, I think the FF and 4WD cars in Enthusia have more realistic handling than GT4. But thats the only bright spot of the game. It sucks.

You really have to play with the settings of the car to get this game to act the way you know and love (realistic)....I played the Jap version for a long time now, Im not sure if I like it as MUCH as GT4, but I do definatley like this game...
