GTR 2 ZOOMS OFF THE START GRID

Sequel to well-received hardcore PC racing sim announced by 10Tacle Studios and SimBin

14:25 Publisher 10Tacle Studios (you see what it did with the name there?) and developer SimBin have announced a sequel to PC racing simulation GTR, a title which our resident racing game expert reckons "is the most realistic driving game I've ever played by far". Blimey.

Imaginatively titled GTR 2, the follow-up is due out this summer and will apparently "set new standards all over again", according to the developer. A new DirectX 9 graphics engine is being employed which allows for a ramp up in track and vehicle detail and the driving model is also being overhauled to improve speed sensation and the overall experience.

10Tacle Studios adds: "The dynamic day-night light cycle, weather changes, and impressive damage system once again provides an impressive experience of the exciting FIA GT racing series on your PC at home."

Come summer 2006, GTR 2 will set new standards all over again! The new DirectX9 graphics engine ensures that the race cars and circuits are portrayed in a more detailed and photorealistic way than ever before, and the sensation of speed experienced with the HP-beasts is even more immersive, thanks to the improved driving model.

The dynamic day-night light cycle, weather changes, and impressive damage system once again provides an impressive experience of the exciting FIA GT racing series on your PC at home.

The DX9 engine that this one is based on is the same as GT Legends. Having had GTL for couple of weeks now, I can say that it's a noticeable improvement over the orignal GTR. The difference in night racing is...well...night and day.

If you haven't seen it already check out the video I posted over in the GT Legends thread. It should give you some idea of what to expect with GTR2.

I have GTR1 and its AWESOME!!! I really need a good steering wheel setup coz this keyboard thing is getting kinda old.

Im def. getting GTR2 when it comes out

So what is a decent steering wheel setup w/ pedals and maybe a shifter. I have maybe 100-200 to drop.

For that budget range, I think you're pretty much going to be limited to Logitech's Momo Racing or Driving Force Pro wheels. The DFP is technically a PlayStation controller but it works fine on the PC.
