RACE: The WTCC Game (SimBin)

FYI - The web site for SimBin's followup title to GTR2 has gone live. A simulation of the FIA's World Touring Car Challenge. At the moment, there's more there about the real series than the game but here's the link anyway.

The best part.... I finally get to race my car in a real sim!

Good question. The only images I can find of the real car are all from the front. Maybe it's the location for the master electrical kill switch?

Maybe is a connection to recharge the pneumatics.

The car blows up seven seconds after you pull the pin.

I was thinking the car would deflate if you pulled it.

Someone should just email them and find out. Come to think of it, I will. I hope they speak English.

I'd bet that hole is for the quick-connect fitting for the air jacks that are built into the car. So when the car is in pit, the crew just plugs an air hose into the fitting and the air jacks will raise the car. Many Touring race cars use this type of device. RTR uses these air jacks in their TSX's and RSX's.

That was my initial guess, but I can't figure out why there are 3 small holes in it. Usually it just looks like a conventional air jack you'd find on any other pneumatic equipment.

An emergency kill switch normally has an "E" sticker near it, and most of the time (well, at least the European racing series), this "E" sticker is located either on the bottom of the front windshield or the trailing edge of the hood. In World Challenge series, I've seen this sticker on the passenger side door, and the kill switch is actually on the dash by the passenger side window.

Behold the power of the internet. JAS actually replied to my email.

Here is the answer:

The car has a pneumatic device installed to lift it from the ground (see picture).

To let the jack be filled up by the air you will need a pneumatic quick release HI pressure connection (as picture).
One of the two part (of this connection) must be always fitted directly to the car.

Here you will find an example.

I hope it is clear enough.
Regards
Andrea
to all the people who guessed that it was the air jack.

FYI - The release date for RACE has been announced as "November, 2006" so not too much longer to wait.

Can't wait!

BTW, I took a close-up shot of a connector for an air jack system on a Mazda at Mosport last weekend:
