Help with Linksys wireless router
Help with Linksys wireless router
I have a Linksys router. All settings were default and I am trying to password protect my internet connection so my neighbor does not have access to the wireless connection. I went inot the Linksys page (192.168.1.1) and changed the password under the password tab but this does not protect the connection - it was the password for the login to Linksys router. What do I need to do to keep others from using my wireless router. Thanks for your help and comments.
not sure which model you have...this is for my firmware 1.52.2 on WRT54GS model
- go to "wireless" tab, then "basic wireless settings". enter your ssid. choose to hide your ssid (so snooping neighbor can't see the name) if you want.
- go to "wireless security" next to basic wireless settings. choose wpa-personal or wpa2-personal, use "AES" encryption, enter your passcode.
- test to make sure it works.

Just go to the linksys webpage and download the tutorial that helps you set up the router. Towards the end it will tell you if you want to secure your router or not and click on either wpa or wep.
