careful cause some chips say they are compatible with xbox live.. arent. if you play live and you got a chip... you may wind up being banned...
xbox - live =

oh yeah they do require soldering so if you suck with a soldering iron... your xbox is gonna be done for.. never done it so i dont know exactly how many welds it requires... but maybe you can contact a chip manufacturing company and ask them for a diagram b/4 u buy it...

others on this board have a chip that you can turn on and off so that you can play xbox live. They are in our clan, so ask around.

not all chips require soldering.

Mine was a drop in. In fact, most today are drop ins.

If you know how to solder it's easy.

If you don't mind shelling out for a solderless kit it's really easy.

xbox is the easiest thing to mod ever. for me it was, buy the chip online, open xbox, position it over the right spot, screw it down, done. i mean there is absolutely no soldering required.

Once the box is modded, what kind of things have you guys done, besides rip games and adding media players?

You can add movies and such but that falls under media player. I put a 200 gb harddrive in it and truthfully if I were you I would do what I did. You can run linux and sorta use it as a crude computer but not worth it in my opinion.

Halo edition Xbox=No mod only buy live games for it
Xbox $90 from a pawn shop + 200 gb hard drive + solderless mod chip= Excellent media player/good for parties or tossing in your car like I did. There are sites online that tell you how to get online...I haven't tried it and don't want too thats why I have the other xbox. www.xbox-scene.com

also, i have an extra xbox that just needs a new drive(i think, thompson drives when i bought my xbox had a notorious rate of failure and i opened mine and cleaned the lens and it still shows some games are dirty and freezes during games every once in a while) i might be able to get rid of if someone wants to chip it and use it as a second. dont know how hard it would be drop a new drive in it, tho.

probably 90% of the games I play on my xbox are in emulators.

N64, NES, SNES, Genesis, Master System.... I've got em all

if u know someone else with a chip and u don't play live, u really don't even need to buy a chip. I have 2 xbox's both of them are modded, and each has a 80gb harddrive and i didn't buy a chip for either one. I just hooked my xbox up to another xbox that was already modded, and flashed my bois with thiers, and loaded on some programs and that's it... i have no chip in either one, total cost of modded xbox was like 60 bucks each (i got my xbox's for 60 bucks each new, didn't cost me anything to mod it, and the harddrives i had laying around my house, b/c i have a lot of computers and didn't want to shell out alot of money for huge harddrives.) oh yea, and i burn games from my xbox too, i use a program called craxion to make it into an iso
