Here's something that's new that I forgot...
When doing a co-operative missions, if one person dies, both players have to start again from their last previous checkpoint. Me and my buddy were getting annoyed at this because we'd finally get far, then one person would die, and we'd have to start over again from our last checkpoint
but It definetly makes it more challenging and if anything we get better at it and learn new tactics and strategies

Halo 2: notes
- dual wielding adds a new, welcome dimension to the weapons system - overall, weapons seem quite balanced.. energy sword may be a bit much but relatively hard to get and melee only... the energy sword's lock-on melee attack is quite gratifying and fun to execute... a pleasure to use.... when I had the energy sword I had this kind of "invincible" feeling that was fun. battle rifle is a nice addition, hardly ever used the pistol. weapons in dual-wielded configuration are quite fun to use - twin needlers, plasma rifles, and SMG's in particular. I think I used the pistol once.. it's quite boring and even looks boring. At least in the first game it was all silver and looked cool silver and had the zoom.. I never had any desire to use it in Halo 2.
- interesting vehicles, sometimes challenging (and annoying) to use, but effective
- you no longer seem to sustain damage when you fall from high places (correct me if I'm wrong)... so I'm at that one map Big Beaver Dam or whatever its called. I'm up on the ledge sniping on some azzes, someone sneaks up on me, I kinda hear him but its too late - I'm a sitting duck, about to get clocked over the head by a shotgun or whatnot.. what do I do? I just jumped off the cliff. Landed fine, no issues. Sorry but that is lame as all hell. You should take damage when you fall, duh. When you fall off a really high place in a game like Unreal, if its high enough, you go splat, there ain't none of you left.
- why do you have to setup a new game, after each and every game? Why can't it be set like in Unreal so that after a game is done, it automatically cycles to the next map and you start up again? that's kinda dumb.
- played some online with a couple of friends, was generally impressed by the speed of setting up a game, but I didn't feel it was an exclusive experience - I could get the same satisfaction from Unreal 2k4 on PC, and have the control I wanted...
- the Xbox controller setup was pissing me the hell off..... gawddamn I missed my keyboard and mouse.
Two factors that I feel give a good indication about how much I liked the game, after playing a game for the first time, are a) do I want to play it again and b) do I want to HAVE it. I don't have an Xbox so this leaves a perfect opportunity for me to make this assessment. The answer is YES I want to play it again, but NO, I don't want to "have" it. Let me explain. I had Genesis back in the day (did not have SNES) - that was fine. When Killer Instinct came out, only for SNES, and I played it, I bought an SNES, just for that game. It was that good and that fun to play. Another story. I had been kinda, anti-Dreamcast when it came out. I was a PS fan. Part of the reason was my friend was a huge Dreamcast fan so I always ragged on it, naturally. oops. Call it my natural instinct. Anyways, everything changed the day I played Virtua Tennis. Soul Calibur was great, but still not great enough to make me actually want to HAVE IT. It was fine to go play it at my friend's. (FYI this is the same friend who has the Xbox I played Halo 2 on). Anyways after a few sessions of multiplayer Virtua Tennis, it was clear. I needed to have this game, in my possession. So that was that. I went out and bought a DC, just for this game. This is not the way I feel with Halo 2, at all.
The biggest nuisance for me with Halo is the control. After not playing a console FPS for a long time, and playing PC FPS's regularly during that time, going to a console FPS was a huge step backward. I felt like my hands were tied around my back. Say someone is following me - on the PC if I wanna turn around and attack, it's just a snap of the wrist away, attack, done. On Halo2, I move to rotate left or right, it's like an eternity. So :ghey:. So annoying. And that is just one aspect of Halo2 control that bugs me. OK I feel like I could write a book about this. I better stop. I think the main points were made.
My ultimate impression of the game is that it's overrated.

oh yeah I thought single-player mode sucked ass. I didn't even feel like killing any of the bad aliens, they looked too cute. plus the story was kinda bunk.
everything I wrote above, is in reference to multiplayer. Forget single player, its pointless.

this is how many multiplayer console games are now... i definately prefer this.

although if I had to choose the interface of Halo over unreal PC. I'd go Halo.
if i was choosing gameplay, id go unreal.

yes-- its not a mouse and keyboard.
but again... you cannot compare console to pc. two entirely different worlds

I know its probably not resourceful to compare console vs. PC FPS... but the question I ask myself is, given the control is so much better on PC, why the f should I play the console game?? the answer is, I don't have to. I can play Unreal '99, Unreal 2k4, Halo, Doom3, QuakeIV, MOH: blah blah blah whaatever on PC and be JUST FINE....

maybe I have just been playing Unreal on PC for too long.
I will agree Halo has the best controls for any console FPS... of course, I haven't played too many console FPS's... too frustrating.
will I be doing some multiplayer Halo2 again in the near future? yes. have some other shite-talking friends I need to take care of...
btw. also played DOA: Ultimate - thought it was great - graphics are stunning, esp the arena details and artwork. Burnout 3 was a blast, and MK: Deception was... ehhh... not too impressive. didn't play it much tho.

and that is good enough for me.yes I may consider Xbox 2. But I already have a suitcase for now, don't want another one.
I just bought an xbox this past weekend.. I bought playstation 2 when it came out, so didn't really have a need for an xbox.. But, overall I think it was a good buy, since it came with two games and cost only $150.
So far, all I can say is xbox controller is pissing me off big time.. Trying to pass football to "X" receiver is almost impossible, cause I keep pressing "A" button.
It's definitely easier playing FPS's like Halo on PC than consoles..

Made for smaller hands
this game is really pissing me off.
I was just playing online and it was like my shots did nothing to other guys. I snuck up behind this guy dual weilding a magnum and the smg... got three clean shots with the magnum into his back while blasting him with the smg....he turns around and shoots me with the smg (while I'm still shooting him) and I died almost instantly.

magnum/smg is good.
plasma rifle/smg works A LOT better.
plasma rifle destroys the shield and the smg just wrecks after that.
BY FAR the fastest close combat kill (except the sword).

I think for the most part the game is trying to mask the LAG but then stuff like what you described happens.
I've been in games where I've been killed by someone who wasn't even pointing a weapon at me. I've been shooting at a cornered person only to have them "teleport" behind me and "jack me" from behind. I've even seen vehicles disappear. But for the most part this stuff usually only happens between 5-11 PM, when everyone and their mother is on the internet (at least in my neighborhood).

IMHO MP is much more fun than the regular game. My friends and I have stayed up all night so many times playing it. None of us talk any trash (well, very little) so it's just good clean fun. Online MP can be fun if you can avoid the idiots.

There's also groups out there like seasonedgamers.com who aren't a bunch of teenage idiots.

And Yeah, we own you all.
The one game on coagulation was up to 9 vs 2 last night -- and we still won!
