Halo 2 - New/Improved Things to Note

Ok, so with Halo 2 out and with all the new things that are in the game I thought I'd list a few of the things I noticed that are either new or improved. I didn't list the obvious ones because most of you have already played the game so much since monday that you've probably figured a hell of a lot of it out already.

And with this thread started other's can add things they found in the game to be new and improved or hidden things as Bungie has said there are in the game. I wonder what the hidden things are....

Anyways...

New & Improved Things I feel are really cool:
  • When sitting as a passenger in a vehicle, the computer will take control of the vehicle and drive you around if there is another soldier around.
  • the pistol appears to be a lot stronger than the pistol in the original Halo
  • jumps a hell of a lot higher
  • the lmv (i think that's what's it's called) now has an ebrake to do power slides, and it's even got a horn heheh
  • you can cripple the enemy transports
  • LOOKS SWEET AS HELL ON AN HDTV
i don't remember much else, as i'm only on the 3rd mission, but i felt this would let us all share in the new things we've found.

I'll add one

- the energy sword is awesome! When you lock onto an opponent and do a lunch attack, its very satisfying

you know, i tried to do that, but for some reason i couldn't get it, probably because i was being so hasty to just kill the damn bastards.

how'd you do the launch attack? just hit the melee button and jump??

you have to wait until the targeting circle turns red (you have to be close enough to the target to get red). When you do hit the right trigger, and you lunge at the target with an upper cut...kills most things with a single hit (or at least completly drains their shield)

what i hate was u play at the alien on that one stage, then u dont know who the fuck to shoot. using two guns is tight as hell. the ghost and the flying craft have booster now, zoom in function. that plasma sword is bad ass, theres a lot that i like about the game.

ahhhh, ok that I was doing. I thought it was some huge move where you jump and attack or something.

I'm loving the game so far. One of the things I really like is that your allies get much more involved in the fights and are somewhat intelligent. In the first game, your fellow marines would be in a scene or 2 but then usually die off. Here they seem to be much more help

but the more they help, the easier the game so it's a tradeoff.

The next best thing would be to be able to give your soldiers/allies commands and tell them to wait, assualt, recon and so forth. now that would be sweet.

I havent even played campaign mode yet. I spent all last night playing mulitplayer. 16 man melee with swords is unreal.

dual-wielding is the shit. so is the beam gun.

you cant zoom with the pistol in this one..the pistol was almost a cheat in the first...3 head shots and your dead....does anyone else besides me and my friends play unlimited grenades in multiplayer? thats my only drawback..

your right that's what I thought... it was insanely powerful in the 1st game... it's all coming back to me now.. that's probably why they removed the zoom mode for the pistol eh... zoom on the assault rifle?? :hmm: ....

what do you mean playing unlimited grenades in mp is your only drawback?

in the first game you could set rules as unlimited grenades for everyone playing multi. you can no longer set unlimited grenades as a rule, which is lame.

ahh.... never relied on grenades and/or used unlimited grenades, so I can't relate.... not realistic

it was fun to pick em up along the way and make the best use of what you had on you... esp those plasma ones... :lovely:

unlimited of anything makes the game too easy if you ask me. it's a lot more challenging to have limits on ammo and grenades. otherwise you could just strafe everywhere you go and just launch a whole bunch of grenades and hope just one makes contact. what's the fun in that?

havent gotten far enough to get the sword yet.

BUT...

When your guys drive or, they drive enemy vehicles...it can help but they usually suck...sometimes they just up and stop and dont drive anymore.

If you get next to a Ghost you can kick the alien driver out and take over.

The cinematics are good but there are glitches...very apparent ones.

All in all its a good fun game. multiplayer is better then ever. levels are awesome.

It was worth my money.

when everyone has them, everyone has the same advantage...so how does that make it easy? thats just how we always played...fun to use just grenades sometimes...big bummer to me...

which is harder, using a limited number of grenades and ammo therby forcing you to make better decisions of when to pull the trigger and aim better, or having unlimited of everything where you take the aspect of rationing your weapon's out completely.

With the option of having unlimited of everything, the challenge of aiming better so your hits are deadlier is degraded IMO. You'll still have to aim better before you get killed by the other guy. But having limited ammo makes it even more challenging.

If I had a choice of unlimited ammo or 1 grenade and a few bullets and it was me against 4 other guys. I'd still take the option of limited ammo because it makes it even more challenging.

I've noticed that sometimes the texture's on some of the shapes are wrong, and after the object moves it corrects itself. Other times the object does funny things, or just flat out looks weird.

It's LOD swapping (Level of Detail)... Basically as you get closer to objects, the game automatically switches to a higher resolution texture and a more detailed model with more polygons.. It allows great graphics up close while allowing huge outdoor areas, a lot of action on the screen and a smooth frame rate.

The glitches in the cinematics are due to the use of normal mapping. It's a pretty new graphical effect used in Doom 3 and now Halo 2. It allows for very realistic looking characters and textures, but since the HP of the Xbox is somewhat limited (it's using 3-4 year old technology) you will notice a lot of texture pop-in and other glitches.

Overall though, it's an awesome looking game that really pushes the Xbox to it's limits.
