Do you guys know when they will release GTR2 in the US?
I have been playing the demo and I like it.
Frame rate is a little bit low with my computer. Getting around 48fps with everything max out.
Running P4 2.8 w/ HT and a AGP X800XL.

I thought it was supposed to be September 30th. Regardless, I distinctly recall either the developer or the publisher previously stating that the U.S. release date wold be the same as the "International" release.

FYI - It should be hitting the shelves starting this week. Some people in Europe already have it and the North American publisher issued a press release stating that they are "...proud to announce the North American release of GTR2..."

Initial impressions:
Definitely evolutionary of the original GTR and not revolutionary. Although the force feedback is supposed to be massively improved and excellent overall. I don't have FF though.
Graphics: Decent but by no means advanced. rFactor is much prettier.
Physics: can't really judge with only a couple dozen laps. No mystery spins or other unexplained phenomenon though like the original GTR suffered from. I'll need to find some setups that I can push the cars with in order to judge how the physics really do. This series is still the king though when it comes to realistically having to warm up the tires and brakes. You can feel the difference as they come up to temperature.
Overall value: well worth the $20. If you don't have the original GTR and you're interested, get it. If you're happy with the original GTR and/or you're not that serious about it, you may want to save your money.
If you have no racing sim titles for the PC and are looking to get one, I'd probably recommend rFactor over GTR2. GTR2 almost certainly has more realistic physics but rFactor's are IMO plenty "realistic enough" to be satisfying. Combine that with the wealth of different kinds of cars for rFactor and the better graphics, and I'd say it's the more entertaining overall package right now.
Miz, I'll test the wrong gear stuff the next time I'm in the game. I'm pretty sure most (if not all) of the real life counterparts to the cars in GTR2 have sequential transmissions so I don't think the six speed shifter on the Logitech wheel is actually buying you any realism relative to this game.

I just got a copy from Best Buy for $20 bucks. The look of the game in my computer is not **EVEN** close to those screenshots. Mine looks cartoonish. They are not even realistic at all.
Maybe I need to mark those High Texture thingies to enable the "real" look.

or do you know anyone has actually get that screen?
I am thinking to go all out to upgrade my computer. or get a new computer.

Maybe I have the best computer in the thread but it most definitely isn't anything special.
Athlon64 3800+, 1 GB DDR400 RAM, 256MB 7900 GT
I honestly have yet to pull up the frame rate counter in GTR2 but I definitely get acceptable results on my machine at 1024/DX9/32 bit/85 Hz. IIRC, I have about 2/3 of the graphics settings maxed and the remainder one notch down from max.
As for the appearance of the screen shots Srika posted, notice anything about them? They're almost all tight shots that show very little of your overall surroundings. That's because the track graphics are fairly lame compared to what else is out there. There are small bits and pieces that look good and those are what you're seeing in these screen shots. Overall though, GTR2 track graphics = meh. The car graphics are better than the tracks but most of their net worth comes from the details in the textures on them and not the 3D models of the cars themselves. IMO you can tell that the cars are basically big (but detailed) "decal sheets" about 30-40% of the time.
I actually haven't driven GTR2 since about the third day after I purchased it. I've been having too much fun in rFactor with the Sprint Car mod and especially the Australian V8 Supercar mod and Bathurst track. The F1 2005 mod that I previously posted screen shots of was also recently updated so I'll have to snag that soon.

yes... the cheapo graphic card just won't cut it.
I got my X800XL from ATI for $119. What a bargan.
My friend who works in ATI can get me a X1900 for very very cheap... but I have to upgrade to PCI-E. So, I just get the X800 instead.

at high speed it is a bit more dificult to controll cause the force feedback is working against you, but thats adjustable as well as the amount of force it takes to turn the wheel. also played it with NFS MW... but thaty doesn't support the 6mt so used the paddel shifters on the wheel, and again at low speed great , but at high speed hard to contro, then again maybe its getting used to that was the problem.
finish wise the wheel is top notch. quality materials, the paddel shifters are aluminum unlike others plastic and fail after 2 months of usage, and the brake pedal is harder to push vs the gas pedal and clutch. i tried heel-toe downshifting with the pedals while possible, it did feel unnatural, and in gtr without heel-top the car jerked alot under brakeing downshifting and sometimes would lock up my rears and send me spinning.
overall its a reallky great wheel, but if it was 200$ i would be all over it, but 300$ i don't know if its worth it, saying that in the next week i'll probably end up buying it anyways....

Matter of fact, it's quite good. If you already have GTR though, I don't personally feel there's much incentive to get GTR2. IMO, it's really more like GTR Service Pack 2 than GTR2. Now if you can get it for the equivalent of our el-cheapo price down here (U.S. $20), then go right ahead. It's certainly worth that much. If you're going to end up paying the price of a normal full game title though, I personally don't think it's worth it.

There are some extra in GTR2 that GTR does not have. The driving school is fun. It covers every skill like passing, cornering, etc. Sometimes it is tough because every tracks use different car. So, if you are used to the 350Z and they put you in a Lotus, you will have problem handling the car from the beginning. IMO.

So I finally picked up a copy of GTR2 over the holidays and I've been pretty impressed so far.
I haven't had much seat time yet with it, but the first thing I noticed was the physics seem to have improved. The weight transfer under braking was the most noticeable change and it forced me to change my line & breaking points for most corners on the tracks. I thought GTR1 was a little unrealistic under braking for some corners before. The line I take into the Fogarty Esses at Donington would be suicidal in GTR2. I've lost about 2 seconds on Donington, but I'm sure I'll get most of it back once I get used to how the cars handle now.
The driving schools are quite good and some of them are pretty hard to beat the teacher. I'll definitely be having some fun with that new feature.
