geForce 6800 Problems
In my new comp the geForce 6800 256mb card is acting up. Is anyone aware of whats causing this, can anyone help me. Am i going to have to get another card? I will start a game and it will be fine, then after about a minute or so the game starts to jump and shutter.....PLEASE HELP!!!
Is this card replacing an older NVidia card? Did you upgrade the driver recently? You might need to use Driver Cleaner (or other program) to wipe out any old versions of NVidia drivers.

Then do a clean install.
Good luck.

how old is the card? does it happen with every game or certain games?
yup like said above. i would first remove any trace of old driver. install a fresh copy. make sure nvidia doesn't require any preqreqs such as latest directx though it shouldnt make that much of a diff.
also in the other post, someone mentioned making sure its clean in there, free of dust.

I fixed it in most games.....i downloaded rivaTuner (geForce specific card customizer) and forced off the fastwrites and disabled all startup programs through "msconfig"......i would say it worked by about 90%. Appearently the later geForce cards have several problems. At least im not the only one!!

From your original post, it sounds like your card/system is overheating.
I would make sure that all the fans in the machine including the one on the 6600 are all operating as expected.
In the Advanced Video Settings, there is a Tab for your 6600 and then a Temperature Settings sub item. You can see the video card's temps in there. Just beware that Video cards will drop temps very quickly, so you wanna have this running, then launch your game, and then drop the game as soon as possible after it starts getting twitchy.
PS: Your comment about running "anything" out there right now is a little bit off. I'm running a top of the line machine with a 7800GTX and I can run most games full settings, but some of them still run better when kicked down a notch on the quality/size settings.

Sounds like artifacts. Listen to the pros above and tweak your card so its not getting pushed too hard. Kick it down a notch below the tops and your games will love you. My Geforce 6600GT still owns most games I toss its way
