I guess it's a neat concept...since protein folding is so complicated, only the most powerful of supercomputers (and that's conceptually) can process the info...so, by having a distributed computational method, it may just do the trick for researchers...

And of course, if we do ever solve the mystery of how proteins and etc. fold...the cure for cancer could be a possibility...?

It's cool to look at and puts your PS3 to some sort of good cause. Outside of that, it's up to you if you want to leave your PS3 on.

It really doesn't look like it costs too much to run a ps3 with folding @ home on it for a month either. Supposedly It only draws 200 watts when crunching those numbers.

It's Sony's attempt to draw out some of that evilness from their demon-machine...By contributing somehow to a good cause, it kinda counters all the kitten-killing and gramma-slapping the PS3 does each time it powers up.

Goodness knows, I have to keep mine at bay with my trusty baseball bat. IT BITES!

I've been processing one job on my 3ghz dual core pentium d for 3 days. It's still only at 98 percent.

Yeah, the data I have seen so far indicates the ps3 is much faster at this than regular computers. Thanks to the cell processor. Can’t play games, but can sure crunch some numbers, zing!

I didn't really read the whole thing... but a few sentences into it... it reminded me of the "Umbrella Corp" from Resident Evil...

What I have folded on a dual core 3 GHz for 4 days took my buddy 6 hours on his PS3!!! Mizouse your first job will take a long time, but the PS3 folds at about 6 times faster than any PC around.
I remember trying this on a pentium 2 about 3 years ago, and I waited 6 days before I gave up on it. The PS3 can complete around 3-4 work units a day. It really is an amazing task and hopefully will provide valuable results for the Stanford research team.

any chance there's an AZ team? I wonder if we could get a decent score from AZ members crutching these things.
