Maybe someone can help me out.
I tried to connect to the internet to play BF2 and it just locked up my computer.
I created a user name (or whatever) on the first attempt per the screen, used a valid email address, and then connected and it locked up.
I then restarted and tried to connect directly by going to online mode and it looked for servers but I didn't get anything in the server list. Using different filters, all/no filters, refreshing,.. nothing worked and I couldn't get any servers.
I have cable modem and it is on all the time.
Is there a setting somewhere that I am missing?

Are you running the latest patch? v1.3 is now available.

Download that and it should fix some, if not all of your problems.

Hmmm, you know what, I am not sure. I just recently purchased the game so it didin't occur to me to look for updates.
I'll try that tonight and see if it helps.
Thanks for the reminder to pull my head out and do the obvious.

Then you definitely need the update. The reason why you can't find any servers to play on is because you have to have the same version (patch) as the server is running to play and no one is playing on the original, out of the box, version anymore.

mrsteve,
Thanks for the help, that was it. I downloaded the patch last night and got right on without any problems.
Man, the EA recomended site was slow. I couldn't download from EA directly for whatever reason so I chose the link under EA's. Download time was 3.5 hours with cable modem. Holy crap.
I did a search and found a different site and the download was about 10-15 minutes.
Anyway, thanks again.

so um, msx security charges for a membership fee to their forum, which supposedly allows you access to their downloads.... $20 for one week, $35 for one month.. etc
i want to test it out

test complete!
overall interesting but really is atrocious looking, too much stress gettin it to run properly then worrying about PBSTAFF and all kinds of other bs... the no fog feature is nice, aimbot is meh... $20 bucks for one week, and they'll charge your ass every week until you cancel the subscription thru paypal. the way they play it is you "pay for forum access" then the "hack" is free to download, the cheats are run thru a program that is similar to like a kazaa, where the "hack" is streemed to you. However, they do work, you can only use the cheats as long as you have the program/membership, the lifetime membership is $245.
They also have a fully functional forum which is pretty good, admins and moderators very helpful, FAQ's professionally laid out as well as How to's in pdf format.
In conclusion, according to the site admin there are 12,000 users playing various games.. i would say there is a 1/200 chance you'll run into someone actually using a hack in game, which is pretty high considering the amount of people playing. The aimbot IS NOT A SURE FIRE KILL, there are all kinds of calibrations, and as long as you are running or jumping, the aimbot will not guarantee a kill unless the victim is stationary. It's nice to see what the dark side has to offer, but if you are a skilled bf2 player you can STILL kick someones ass who is using a hack.
