This sunday all Best Buys will have at least 20 360's in. I know that other stores have been getting some in since weds. But best buy will do a second coming this sunday. Also for you Canadians, futureshop had some online as well. Your chances are pretty good at getting one this sunday if most people dont know. So if you want one, get your ass up early and hit up best buy.

 

Supposedly 300k 360's will be shipping or have shipped to the US this week.

 

What about in Canadian stores, Do you know anything about them (as apposed to online)

I was at best buy around noon today getting some dvds for my trip to london tomorrow....

There was already a huge line outside with tents and chairs and all of morons waiting to get their 360s.....greatest part was half of them were all playing gameboys or psps....

I'll say it again...all this shit for a fucking videogame system. I'll wait til next year pick one up, thanks.

I was shopping near the Roosevelt Field Mall today in Long Island and I drove by the Best Buy. There was a HUGE line of idiots waiting outside in lawn chairs and sleeping bags waiting for the 360. There easily had to be close to 100 people waiting in line.

I went to see if there was a line at Best Buy at like 330pm Saturday. There were already 30 people in line so figured it was my only shot if i got in line right then. Got #31 knowing they were getting around 50+ in so i figured i was probably gunna get one. They actually let us sit in the mall the entire night so we didnt freeze to death outside which was really nice of them. Anyway, lots of people with dvd players, psp, laptops. Everyone in the mall were yelling stuff at us, saying we were crazy, werent gunna get one, etc.....17 hours later i got around 2 hours of sleep and they were finally ready to open. At this time there were probably around 200 people on line. I really dont understand how the people past around 50 thought they were gunna get one. I really have to commend Best Buy on doing this in an orderly, fair way. It went quick...went in, got my games, accessories, console, and was done. Played for a few hours today, works perfectly fine. I got Call of Duty, Madden, PGR, and NFS....all of them r great. Setting up my live account tomorrow. It was an interesting experience waiting 17 hours for one of these and im crazy for doing it but it was worth it.

 

Very cool story. Glad the waiting worked out and you got one. I personally don't have the patience to wait in a line that long, so I'm glad I pre-ordered back in May and got one at launch. I love the system as well. I'd recommend getting PGR3 is you like racing games. It's been awesome playing it online and the graphics are unreal.

 

well, I'm hoping to head over to a friends in the next couple days and he has his 360 hooked up toa big screen plasma HDTV, so I'll get my first taste of HD gaming.

honestly, after looking at gameplay pictures and video I'm not impressed yet, and I won't be that impressed with "graphical upgrades" till gameplay starts looking like the COD2 tv commercials.

 

It was really hard waiting that long but it was worth it. I pre-ordered in July from Ebgames and still hadnt got one. Knowing my luck they'll call this week saying they got it in but w/e. And i did get PGR3 and its sick. Havent played online yet but the game is really good.

 

ehhh i am still in, but i do notice the same thing. maybe when we get 360's and new game, we can form a new one.. or soemthing. I will get your name again in my friends list to play 360 games when i get it.

Really have you played NBA2k6? PDZ is ok on high def and gun looks the same just about. Buy my goodness nba2k6 on hdtv is freaking amazing.

 

I played PDZ, COD2, and PGR3, and I payed attention like mad, and it seriously seemed just like PC games I have played except on a bigger screen, and a console instead of the computer.

I actually got kinda naseous playing PDZ, but I'm find playing halo2, so I have no idea what the deal is with that.

I know these are just launch games, so they aren't taking full advantage of the machine yet, but I sure as hell hope they pick up the pace because I've got no reason to buy one yet.

 

Last nite, the local Fox news in NY did a piece on the hysteria over 360. One woman they did the piece on bidded on eBay for a "picture of an new Xbox 360", she was so happy to only pay 600 for it until she got an envelope in the mail with an actual picture of an 360 system. I was cracking up!

In the end, a local store JandR Electronics heard about the story and donated a system to her. The system was supposedly originally intended for the son of the store's owner. Nice p.r. piece.

Not impressed?! Wow im really surprised, PGR3 and a bunch of the other games are amazing on HD! Soo clean. These are only launch titles, by the spring and summer the games will begin to take full advantage of what the Xbox 360 has to offer. Also set up my Xbox live account last night, very impressive setup easy to use, fast. Ripped a cd to my hard drive too. Im gunna try to hook up my PC today too. So far, i really like the system and the games its addicting as hell.

 

I can't believe people actually complete these "picture" transactions. Can they not read? You can't even say the seller scammed you.

 

I'm sure they can read, but I'm thinking that the senario is... a bidder goes into a "search" in this case "xbox 360" and they see the low amount on an item, and jumps in thinking... "...shit, it's over in 2 minutes!!!" and start bidding, and because of the heat of the moment... NOT reading everything written... they might skip words and just "assume"...

I have to admit... just about an hour ago... I almost bid on... what I thought was a real "Panerai" watch... turns out it was a replica but the seller used the words "....this is a 'representation' much like...". I didn't even catch the phase until the auction was over... the closing bid was $1035!!!! For a replica... I highly doubt the winning bidder knows what he/she is doing... -had only 2 feedbacks.

 

If it's not supposed to be compared to PC games then it's not supposed to be compared to previous gen consoles either.

I honestly expected a lot more out of it than stuff I've seen on my PC for the last 2 years.

Hell, COD2 with LESS grahical effects on a PC runs at less than 60fps on a top of the line gaming rig (Athlon 64 x2 4200+, nVidia GeForce 7800 GTX, a rig that will cost over $2000+ today) while the 360 version is locked at 60fps and includes extra lighting, smoke effects and enhanced AI.

I don't know what your expectations are this next gen, but if you expect the PS3 to display much better graphics than the 360, you will be sorely disappointed. The games are very impressive in their own right for first gen games. PC's always will be faster in the end, but consoles produce a price point advantage.

 

I don't expect the ps3 to display any better graphics. I'm just saying that after reading all these people say "OMG with HD it looks AMAZING!!!!" I got my hopes up pretty high, and then I want to play it and I could still see the strething of pixels on textures, the AA was no better than Far cry on my PC with 1024x768 @ 4x AA, the smoke effects in COD2 were pretty good though. I dunno about "locked at 60fps" I saw some pretty bad slowdown(30fps or less) a couple times while playing COD2 single player. When sniping enemys that are far away they just disappear (huh?), yes there are a lot more enemies at a time, but I've seen that many enemies at a time in BF1942.

The AI in COD2 was pretty impressive, but again not something I haven't seen before.

What IS impressive is that it can accomplish all of these at once, but I still am not amazed at this. I don't understand how people are praising the performance, graphics and HD like it's a miracle of gaming.

I personally don't have an HDTV, and haven't gotten a chance to play the 360 on a standard def tv, but from what I've heard it's not that much different than some current gen xbox games, and I don't have the money to go buy an HD setup to get the full benefits.

I was expecting to give it a rating of 11/10 from all these reviews, but after playing it I'd have to give it an overall of 7-8/10. Maybe I need to spend more time with it to get the full effects, but immediately after playing the 360 we went back to play 4 player halo 2 on his xbox and I didn't even make a concious aknowledgment of the difference in graphics.

 

The thing is, i have had investement of 450 dollars on my computer this year, if you count money from every year i've had it.. since the xbox 1 came out.. i'm well over 2k.

I can do cod2 and far cry just fine, just at a price. Well above 399. Looking at GTR (gtr stresses my machine) compared to PGR3 on the exact same monitor though. Pgr just kick's ass. Cod2 i wasn't able to see much difference though. I think comparing a game that was made for the two platforms may not be the best thing.

When a developer made a game for the xbox/ps2/ and game cube there wasn't much of a difference beween them all. But when a came was made just for xbox.. or just for gc or just for ps2, you could see that all 3 of them were better than the multi launch entries.

As far as not being decernable on a sdtv, I noticed quite a difference from xbox 1 to two on the exact same tv. Just so long as they were those titles that had been made with the hardware in mind.

I did buy cod2 on the pc though, kb and mouse plus it was 25 bucks cheaper on sale at BB.

 

The thing about PC's is that it costs 400 bucs for a hot gfx card, 100+ for a good audio card, 150+for a good mobo, 200+ for a decent HD, DVD, Memory, case, Power Supply...........And it will still run a little chopppy at times, have configuration issues, installation, and not to mention, what other programs you may have running can mess with performance. I have a killer gaming setup, but it's easier for me to use the 360 on a daily basis. I'm a stickler for detail and i cant help but mess with gfx settings when i get a game loaded up. And then you have to worry about how many hz the monitor is operating at, the refresh rate........F that. Just pop in the disk and play.

 

Because contrary to the tech nerds on this little subforum PC's are not created for gaming and 99% of the people who buy them do not buy them only for gaming.

the xbox is a gaming CONSOLE. That is its purpose. It can be compared to PS2 because that is what it has to compete with right now. And it would make sense to compare it to its previous console to see if there is improvement.

and as noted above price wise there is no comparison.

So back to the original question. Is it better than other console gaming systems?

 

yes it is better than current systems, but marginally so from what's out yet. I'm sure it will get better though.

Why does nobody mention gamecube when comparing systems? IT has far superior graphics to ps2.
