So Ive read the new gameinformer.
I still play halo regularly, I am an avid fan and always have been for as long as I can remember.
That being said, 343 studios will be the death of the franchise. Today, after reading that article, my eyes were bleeding.
I am sad.

Theres some really interesting stuff for campaign planned, and they are doing a good job there, but heres where they lost me
for multiplayer:
- custom perks, loadouts (i can stomach if its handled well)
- instant respawn (terrible idea...)
- drop in/drop out COD style (essentially going to make the game much less about strategy/teamwork/winning and much more about refining your own k/d above all else. who wants to join a halo game where you are getting raped? who wants to stay in a game like that also.)
- Random weapon drops (essentially destroys map control and will completely change (or ruin if you feel like i do) competitive multiplayer, map control has always been such an integral part of competitive Halo that in doing this to cater to the casual fanbase they will be destroying their core constituency of hardcore halo players)
I can see how people who dont play much or dont enjoy multiplayer or play very little might think they are good ideas, but they are fucking awful, and I could go on for hours on why these are all AWFUL ideas for multiplayer, but were seeing a shift from traditional halo mechanics towards COD style multiplayer
If you are not big on multi ( I eat that shit for breakfast, lunch, and dinner ), the campaign seems really interesting from the tidbits they let out, the graphics look superb, there is a new race joining with a whole new full set of weapons, the chief is alive and lands on a new planet and links up with ONI forces on a secret mission, etc
There is no firefight returning, and instead they are planning a weekly offering of co-op missions akin to COD special ops... called spartan ops.

loadouts have always been on the fence for me, i enjoy using them, but they can be abused and overpowered... i honestly prefer the halo 3 days of no armore permutations.. but thats me.
weapon drops are stupid.
like you mentioned, a huge strategy for HALO multiplayer has always been who gets to the power weapons first.
instant respawn doesnt bother me, just more action and faster. it will also change up the strategy some.
drop in and drop out is also a toss up for me. there are often times where i would enjoy just jumping into a game, but im not thrilled about them encouraging people to quit and join as they please, it will hurt the integrity of "team strategy" and become more individual based like you mentioned.
maybe all of these things will be incorporated with some type of twist or nerf to cater to the old school guys a bit.. we will see.
either way, im excited and cant wait to play, i've already planned on buying the halo 4 console (as if they werent going to have one lol)

I also prefer H3, statistically, I am better at Reach, but i felt like a better player in Halo 3. When i beat someone in Halo 3, it was because I was better than them, and when i lost, it was because they kicked my ass.
Reach is easy to take advantage of with all the armor abilities and casual focused changes they made, its been easy to score kills and when I die it feels more like luck on the enemies part more than anything else
Another problem is that 343i isnt holding a beta for halo 4 multiplayer. Which is a massive... DAFUQ?
Even bungie, with a shit fuck ton of Halo multiplayer experience, held 2 betas for the last 2 halo games, and the betas practically played like different games thats how many changes they made. Again, something I could go on for hours about, but yeah, it boggles the mind that 343i thinks they can just throw out a halo game without doing a beta for mp =|
Dont get me wrong, ill still be in line for this on midnight regardless of whether its good or awful. Master Chief is a pretty cool guy, and he doesnt afraid of anything.

Who else is disappointed in 343 for adding a story to the multiplayer? Not only that but we're now Spartan 4's.
Master Chief is a Spartan 2 and in Reach we were Spartan 3's. Since when did this new generation of Spartans emerge? Master Chief is the LAST Spartan.
There also won't be Firefight, which I really enjoy.

- I still have mixed feelings on loadouts. Not really a fan of them.
- Instant respawn is a horrible idea...
- I think the drop in/drop out style works for CoD, but I don't really see it working for Halo. Maybe have a playlist for it, but that's about it. There are already enough people who rage quit. They don't need to encourage it. The downside to that style is most of the time if you join a game in progress, the team is most likely getting destroyed. I hope the competitive MLG gametypes are still team vs team.
-The only thing weapon drops will do is encourage camping a certain part of the map.
- I wish they would have kept firefight. I really like horde modes, and while co-op missions do sound fun, I think horde mode has a more lasting appeal.
I didn't play Reach all that much but am looking forward to this. It sounds like they are moving onto a whole new chapter with Master Chief and quite frankly the series needs it. I'm curious to see what the new enemies and planet will look like.

Welp, looks like I gotta catch up on the Halo books. Gonna try and borrow the rest of the Halo games from my friends just to see though. Halo has always been one of my favorite universes, right there with Mass Effect.
its a major forerunner character. dont bother reading the books, last one (glasslands) wasnt that good, but does have some setup for halo 4. I suggest you just read the excellent summaries on Halopedia
as far as the forerunner ties to halo4, the forerunner story is actually quite excellent. Its best told through the halo 3 terminals IMO, but the halo anniversary terminals/halo legends episode about them will do good too

Preorder Halo 4 - $44.99
Just a heads up, use the code EMCYTZT2339 on Newegg to get $15 off Halo 4.
They don't charge you until the day it ships and you can cancel anytime between now and then.
The code is only valid until midnight tonight so get it while you can.

I loved the books. Read em all or the ones I remembered that were out, Fall of Reach, The flood, First Strike, Harvest, Ghosts of Onyx, and Cole Protocol. I missed the Chief, can't wait to be playing him again.
Spartan IIs > Over any Spartan IIIs and now this made up Spartan IVs.

I preordered mine from newegg a few weeks ago for 15 dollar off retail, I don't think they have it anymore right now, but the Microsoft store has it for 59.99 plus 25 off your next purchase, free shipping, I'm also thinking you could do it at the ms store not sure though.
Here guys, if you haven't preordered here's a list of what bonuses or prices they have it's from slickdeals. Hope this helps you guys.
