The demo is downloaded and I should be able to take a break around 11 to check it out.
Reviews I've read are negative for the most part, people complaining about "assisted" steering...which is something I care nothing about, especially when the game is OBVIOUSLY more focused on eye candy and I have no intention on dropping $300-400 on a wheel set up.
Im pretty excited to get my own personal impressions of the game and new lighting system.

I'm playing the demo right now. The feature can be turned off.
Overall the game is gorgeous, everything about it, but I don't like how the cars feel. The steering is all over the damn place. I can't correct myself through a corner without spinning out.

Its probably got a bit of a learning curve...

I kinda want to know what they mean by assisted steering. Any console controller needs quite a bit of help before it is even usable. I used my 360 controller with LFS, Sim bin games, and rfactor. To make them usable you need to mess with the dead zones, steering sensitivity, speed sensitive steering, and counter steer speed. Otherwise you are just pushing your tires over the pavement at full lock 90 percent of the time.

Now...
I just played the demo for about an hour. Im playing on a pad.
Surprise. I love it. Its better in just about every way. There seems to be more immersion, really noticeable in cockpit. The sounds are miles more realistic, although still not on par with PGR3. You can actually hear the cars idle. There are pretty awesome ambient sounds throughout.
I really like the handling. I like how you can't control a drift in a 500hp Ferrari. I certainly can't in real life, and I feel the game is true to what would really happen. It feels very natural, even on a pad. Snap oversteer is amazing. Weight transfer is amazing.
I cant wait to play the real deal on tracks I've already been on to really compare the differences. The Alps track is pretty, but it doesnt do much for me.

another thing...exhaust burble.
Love it in real life....love it in the game.
Get the 458 up to revs/speed in a higher gear and let it wind down there is burble all the way. Beautiful.

I think they chose Alpine because it's very easy to learn. Lots of banked sweeping turns.
Just for the heck of it I recorded my first lap, since I play all of my console games through my capture card anyway.

Yay sound. I have allot of gripes about gt5, but the only one I can't get over is the audio.

The driving feel does take a while to get use to, but I like it more than FM3. This time around, it seems throttle input is required much more than in FM3, even with some driver aids on. The M5 in particular, because I can see the car's tail breaking loose even with TCS & what not on.
BTW, if you guys want to turn off the music, just hit the guide button & play a custom song. If you don't think you have any, hit the "Play All" option to be sure. If music starts playing, pause it, close the guide, & presto.
What's funny is that the lead guy in charge of the sound is from Bizarre Creations.
You'll have to send me your Gamertag sometime.

They are saying with all of it turned off, its still there.

Gamertag is MableGT. I wanted MarbleGT, but I misspelled it and didn't catch it. I know.

Now just need to figure out where I can order the Fanatec CSR Elite wheel from.

The only thing I would do differently is flip the pedals upside down.
I built a cheap wheel/shifter stand out of PVC pipe for less then $20. For a stand like the one pictured, it shouldnt be that expensive - aside from the seat. You could get a cheap seat out of a junkyard or peruse CraigsList for one.
Hes also got the rumble seat thing on there.
This is the type of seat I really want to build:
