Yezzir. A bit more understated than I was hoping for.

Pre-order FM4 from different stores and you get different cars...

I'm interested. How do you think load times will be? How long does it take to go from selecting a car to starting the race?

40 seconds maybe on FM3?

I'll need to try it myself to see how it is. If its a pleasing experience getting from screen to screen and loading tracks etc I'll probably get it.

I thought FM3s menus were laid out very well. Much more intuitive compared to GT5, then again I havent played GT5 since the week it launched and I think I heard an update addressed that issue.

i never minded waiting.. but always thought FM3's load times were slow. (from the time you select the track, then select race, to actually racing)
installing the game always helps though.

I would definitely install the game.

Thats true, I installed the game awhile ago when my cd drive started acting up.

I have FM3 installed and I don't think it takes any longer than 30 seconds to load a race.
I love the layout of FM3 as well. I played FM2 a few nights ago for shits and giggles and I was struggling to get around in the game. The layout is terrible.

the installation disk for FM3 made it quite a bit faster. I think most of my races loaded up within 20 seconds of that little spinning screen coming on.

It kinda sucks that there isn't more hype for this game. I log on to Forza Central at least once a week to see if there are any updates, but there usually isn't...that is, when the site isn't down.
I really want to see something kill GT5, but I guess thats just too much to ask for, in terms of visuals. I remember the first time I saw GT5P on an HD screen walking through Best Buy...I was thinking to myself, "How the hell did they get those camera angles," only to realize that it was the latest GT installment.
Forza has always left out the little details that other games, like Shift & GT5 have brought to the table. Very realistic smoke from both, windshield reflections (Shift), heat shimmer (Shift and Gt5), awesome lighting, etc.
I have a feeling it will turn out like Forza "3.5".
lol...sorry im just rambling.

Agreed. As much as I want visual orgasms every time I load up this game, I want gameplay to be at the forefront. I could care less if that little leaf moves in the wind if the handling physics are botched.

The physics, graphics, AI, etc all contribute to the overall gameplay experience. Hardcore simulators like GT5 & Forza are great simulators, but IMO both lack that extra "oomph."
Civic, I think you'll get your "visual foreplay" but the orgasm, per-say, would cum from the small details that you say you could do without...the immersion, frighteningly real audio, heat shimmer, various particle effects, etc. It really gives games an edge...and I hate to be a "preacher" of sorts, but the latest installments of NFS have really stepped up their game in this dept.
I know Hot Pursuit isn't anything like what we are generally talking about, but damn that game is pretty. Awesome lighting, modeled projector headlight reflections, dynamic ambient sounds, a "real" living environment, leaves, dust, awesome smoke...theres just a ton there that adds everything to an otherwise boring arcade racer.
I just hope Forza's implementation of "hollywood style effects" isn't making flames shoot from a stock Accord on downshifts. My fingers are crossed for something spectacular.
Its difficult to describe, because I love most racing games. Forza "3.5" will still make it into my collection...on day 1.

meh, i thought GT5 did a good job competing with FM3... like others, i still actually prefer it.
any improvements over 3 makes this a clear winner for me... gonna be an outstanding game i think.

I have to say something. Neither FM nor GT are "hardcore simulators". Generally speaking, the closer you go to a real simulation, the less "fun" it is - it can be downright frustrating. If you try a simulator on a PC and turn off all the aids, it's pretty annoying to drive the car. Ok, that's all.

Agreed. They have to water down the realness of a sim to make it fun. If it was truly perfect in every way possible, they would kill the series.
Do I think there are elements that should be added to the game? Without a doubt. Did Forza 3 disappoint me? Not at all. I'm excited to seeing what FM4 has to bring and I'll continue buying every game in the series as long as there is fresh content available.

I always though they were the most realistic on the consoles. PC gaming is a whole different animal. I tried out iRacing for a month, and although SUPER realistic, like you said, not that much fun to me.
Its to real, if that can be possible.

oh if you're talking consoles, sure I'll agree FM and GT are the most realistic. I just wouldn't call them "hardcore simulators", that's all I'm saying.
GTR on PC is pretty realistic but even that is kind of arcadey. I think R-Factor is up there. Billiam would know more about this but he is AWOL. Anyways I enjoy GTR on PC for a while, with a wheel its pretty great because TV's can't come close to the resolution and sharpness of a PC graphics and monitor. Damnit I wanna play some now. Hmm need to find my GTR2 cd...

Were those Simbin titles?
They always had awesome stuff, and brought a lot to the table in pretty much ever aspect. Didnt they do GT Legends? I think that was the only game EVER where you could do a burnout and when you drive through the smoke, it moves over the car as it would in a real situation.
I enjoyed rFactor while I had it!

I was obsessed with GT when I had a PS2. I sold the PS2, bought a Xbox, and rented the original Forza from Blockbuster. I've been playing FM ever since.

Yep. I played the demo for the first Forza in Circuit City years ago. I fell in love with the game and bought an Xbox with the game that same day.
I do miss having the CL in the original Forza though.
