YouTube video triggers insurance fraud charges for SoCal siblings (GT-R)

Two Diamond Bar siblings have been arrested and charged with felony auto insurance fraud after authorities stumbled upon a YouTube video allegedly showing that their car, which they said were in two separate accidents, was actually damaged during a street race.

Jay Xi Chen, 21, and his sister, Tracy Chen Chen, 29, were arrested last week on suspicion of filing false claims for the damage on a Nissan GT-R “supercar,“ for losses potentially as costly as $76,000, according to the California Department of Insurance.

Jay Chen initially filed an insurance claim stating that his sister had been driving the car when it was involved in a collision on the 10 Freeway last March, and Tracy Chen corroborated his story, authorities said. He withdrew that claim, but later filed another saying he crashed the vehicle in June on the 60 Freeway in Riverside, Insurance Department officials said in a news release Friday.

But investigators found that the damaged Nissan had been sitting in a shop, unrepaired, since March, according to authorities. Investigators also found a video clip on YouTube showing the car on Glendora Mountain Road in an apparent nighttime street race.

In the video, titled “New GTR R35 crashes following Evo IX MR,” a car, which is difficult to make out in the darkness, is shown crashing into a barrier on the side of the road during a turn. The vehicle in the video had the same damage as described in Jay Chen’s claim, authorities said.

Jay and Tracy Chen have been charged with six and one felony counts, respectively, by the San Bernardino County district attorney’s office. Each of the counts carry a maximum sentence of five years in prison, authorities said. They could not immediately be reached for comment.

Wow, the stupidity of some people to post a video on youtube and still try and file an insurance claim...

I guess when your 21 and own a $100,000 car, it still doesn't mean your smartest one out there!

I want to be adopted by their parents because it's obvious they paid for the car and not the kids.

Looks like it's the EVO video so he probably posted it and didn't care. But I would like to know how they say that is the GT-R with no plates or anything showing?

It's not like it's a common car like a Civic or something. With them changing their claim story twice and verifying the damage it probably wasn't hard for the police to put it together.

I can't believe the parents didn't ask where the car was. You'd think they would wonder what was going on.....but I suppose these parents don't give a rat's ass. They'll probably buy them another one.

I wouldn't be surprised if their parents are overseas and they send their kids here for school.

I used to live in Diamond Bar and now live just on the border of it. It's no where near the level of "home of import models and showoffs" that it once was. I would be more inclined to give that title to Anaheim, Garden Grove or Pomona these days.

There's a spoiled Chinese kid by me he drives an E63 and a GTI both modded with rims, exhaust, etc. His parents (from HK), bought him a town house. I honestly don't know if he works or not?

I wonder if they go to my school? I remember seeing some gtrs last year in the parking lots but haven't seen them in a while. Diamond Bar does have a lot of rich kids driving cars that they clearly look out of place in, by the way. In my opinion, kids driving brand new 7 series, sl500s, and range rovers are going to have issues later in life. A chick in my psych class drives a new 7 series and she is as dumb as a brick. She is going to be used to driving expensive cars and later in life will be depressed when her job only affords her a nissan versa. Its their lives though. Let them live and learn.

LOL I saw this in the Chinese newspapers a few days ago. I laughed my ass off. These fuckers had it coming. Can't believe they had the audacity to claim they had an "accident". Glad someone showed the insurance companies the video of it crashing.

I think they go to Pasadena City College. My friend told me there used to be a white GTR that was always there but not anymore. I think the car was in Temple City @ Rising Star Automotive near my house too because my friend took pictures of it.

The mountain road they were racing on was Glendora Mountain Road from what it looks like.. stupid dumb asses two-laneing on the mountains ftl. A lot of people Touge at night...

Indeed, I'm going to assume the kids parents don't know what's going on. Lots of kids from China get sent over here by their parents, and don't have to do shit, while getting tons of money. Some 21 year old kid I went to high school with is driving a F430 convertible now.... wtf.... and yup his parents live in China.

Good God, the new GT-R is like the most idiot-proof car ever made. How you could throw one of those off the road is beyond me, short of closing your eyes, flooring the gas, and letting go of the wheel.

Can we organize an AZ meet-up where we can all stand in a circle and throw at that numb-nuts?
