Would you buy this?

Looking for a Winter Beater. Been browsing Craigslist and came across this Toyota. I have heard toyota trucks are solid, but not sure about the high mileage. What do you think??

Asking Price is $1650

210k, that's it. I almost bought a 2k6 Tacoma w/ 200k for $4k a few months back. My father had a '86 Hilux that had 300k before it was stolen and chopped. The truck was a champ.. I wish it was still in the family.

Worth it for sure. If it's just a winter beater, you'll get your money's worth by spring. I had a '91 4x2 truck that had 300k on it before it got sold. And, before that was an '87 with 312k that I still sold for $700. Just watch the rear wheel wells, they rust out rather easily in the northern climates.

Buy it now, the only problems those trucks have are seals where the oil filter goes.

Too bad it isn't the 22RE (4-cyl), I forget which years but those early '90s Toyota trucks with the V6s had head gasket issues. Make sure you get it checked out first, if it's good keep an eye on that and you've found a steal.

Don't see a problem.

My brother in law is on his second. His first went to his sister with about and it is still going strong at over 200K.

Surprised no one mentioned the Top Gear episode.

You can sink, blow up, crush, crash, and just about anything else to that truck and it'll start again.

Other than it being somewhat primitive by current standards you cannot go wrong with it.

^but that was a diesel Hilux. I wonder if the petrol equivalent would be as resilient after going through similar testing.

Personally that is a great truck (I love my 92 4cyl), but the v-6's are riddled with head gasket issues.

Other than that I would give it a good rust check, especially on the frame.

Good point. I didn't think of the diesel part.

Yea thats what im thinking

Oh well im not in a rush - just browsing till i find a good deal. Have a few months yet before snow hits.

Any other cars you guys would call both very reliable and awesome in the snow? Doesn't have to look great, just be reliable and get me through snow better than the CL.

any early 90s, late 80s toyota truck is a freakin TANK.
yes someone referred back to the top gear episode but one of my friends had an 86 4 runner. got into a pretty bad fender bender, radiator blew, coolant pissed everywhere but even with all that damage he still drove it home. still sitting in his driveway looking for a second life

im new to this forum and i cant find the edit button but to add from my previous post,

be careful about subarus. (im a subaru guy)
any late 90s 2.5L N/A have the dreaded head gasket issues. there are some that have issues even with replaced head gaskets but there are some that dont.
great cars but of course nothing is going to be perfect.

my grandfather had an 86 up until 2 years ago. had to replace the bed on it once. it had the rear leaf springs doubled so he could carry more wood. that truck plower for 22+ years witou a problem. had the 22RE motor in it, head gasket went once and it was replaced, really easy repair.

i'm currently trying to find an mid to late 90's tacoma for my 40 miles commute one way in the winter, almost impossible, everyone wants an arm and a leg for them. anyways the Hilux and tacoma are the same truck. the 4cyl motors in these things are bullet proof so isn't the transmission.
